in case one is interested in 5.5 inch upper without a bolt. there are some available with volquartsen currently. not quite $25 which i heard about before. they are $40 each. i have a competition mark 4 that i put the accurizing kit in and was planning on putting a red dot on but i figured if i get another upper i'll keep the competition with it's longer sight radius for iron sights instead. being a victim of free shipping and wanting to get rid of the $35 shipping fee, i just went ahead and ordered an upgraded ruger bolt to go with it , an extra mag and some bedding blocks to qualify for the free shipping threshold of $200. no affiliation with volquartsen. in my lgs they are selling a similar upper without a bolt for $275.

The FFL trsnsfer fee adds a bit more $$, but the deals are great. (I got two for $25 each, and a second Ruger bolt for another $50 from another place.)

Stay safe.

definitely. fortunately, our transfer fee actually has come down over the yrs from $35 to $25 to $15 last time i had one done about 6 months ago. hope it is still the same. was the $25 upper complete with sights?

If the uppers were not serialized, I’d be on a first name basis with the folks at VQ. As it is, I have already bought one of their Mark IV uppers, and I probably am not done.

Yes, both had the Ruger adjustable sights.

I put a red dot on one and kept the other stock.

The gun originally came with the 10” bull barrel, now I have “three guns” for the price of one. IMG_4253.jpeg

Stay safe.

i got my upper today. unmarred finish. my improved ruger bolt is on backorder and will be shipped directly to me. transfer was $15 at my lgs. already have a lobos industries red dot mount on standby and will probably put a 407c holosun( not yet bought) on the new upper. good deal. i will try to remember not to slingshot this without a loaded magazine and see if i can keep the extractor slot from being damaged. 20240411_190341.jpg 20240411_190828.jpg

That's just beautiful.

And for our next magic trick here at The Grand Council of Enablers, we'll point out that VQ occasionally sells threaded uppers and that if you had one of those, you'd have a suppressor host. And then you'd need a suppressor. (And if you give a mouse a cookie...)

i took both uppers to the range and shot both. the group is tighter at 10 yrds offhand for the red dot off hand but the slab side upper has no problem hitting a 6 inch gong at 50 yrds rested on the bench once you figure out the hold. off hand 50 yds it is just a tad worse than the red dot and i was not so consistent for both. it is fun having the option to switch the uppers easily. at this time, i am just using the same bolt and it is making me question my backorderd purchase of an extra bolt.
