Forgot My EDC at Home Today

So I usually carry on my hip or in the small of my back. When neither is appropriate I carry my little 32 naa in a holster in my pocket. I just went to visit family in a state where carrying would get me arrested. As we were walking down the street to head to a restaurant I reached into my pocket to adjust my 32 naa and I realized it was my cell phone. Panic set in! It was a few seconds before I realized that I wasn't carrying because I was in a no carry state. I wasn't nervous or anything after that but those first few seconds got me.

My Crossbreed Supertuck holster feels about the same with and without my GLOCK 27 stuffed in it.

Been there, done that. Walked out of the house a few years ago with an empty holster. I didn't figure it out until 15 minutes later...

Makes you feel like a goof when the wife asks what you forgot when you return home to retrieve it.

I didn't forget it, but had to lock it up when I went into IL - which I do about once per year. The missing piece of my wardrobe bugged me the entire time I was there. It was like I'd forgotten to wear socks or something.

The only time this has happened to me is when the normal morning routine was not followed. When I get up and put pants on, the gun goes on. If for some reason I put the pants on and don't follow the routine, it has happened that I will be on the way to work and suddenly realize it isn't there. Funny thing is, when I make the choice to break the routine, I even tell myself, "Don't forget!". And then I will still forget.

Yep - I'm heading to the movies with my wife in about 1/2 an hour. The theater has correct (30.06 in Texas) posted no-firearms signage, so I don't carry there. I do feel a little nervous, but suspect the theater shooters won't be out on a Sunday morning.

The one time I forgot to bring my firearm to work (keep in the car) I got robbed. So I don't forget anymore.

I just don't forget to carry any more, not that we all actually live in a combat zone. In truth we are no more safe than the 'safe' areas in Saigon a few years ago.

In truth the violent crime rate in the United States is the lowest it has been in decades.

The rate peaked at 10 homicides per 100,000 in 1980. In 1950 it was 4.5. In 2014 it was down to 4.3.

So half the rate of 35 years ago, back down to the rate of 65 years ago. The MSM hysteria makes us think we are in a war zone when are having the lowest murder rates since the Korean War.

Hmmm....that's not what Donald keeps telling us.

If you habitually carry two, it wouldn't be a problem.

"One is none, two is one."

"The fastest reload is to have another loaded gun at hand."

I have the same problem once in a while with my wrist watch. I can't stand wearing one around the house, but if I step outside without it, I instantly feel nekkid. Weird.

+1

If you don't have a BUG, you're doing it wrong.

You know THR doesn't do politics, I don't know why you are insisting on calling out a specific politician by name based on vague hearsay in this non-political thread

Hardly a day goes by I don't see Donald or Hilary or Barrack mentioned in a gun related thread here. Most are much more negative and derogatory than the innocent statements I made here. My point wasn't really about Donald, it's about the fact that Media and politicians cherry-pick stats with the sole intent to misinform. It's no secret that Donald has been telling us Crime is at a all time high when in fact it isn't. It is well documented and not vague hearsay. It is relative to this thread because folks think they need to arm themselves to the gills as opposed to a few years back, based on the belief that they are at a greater risk then ever before.

Quotes of people in this thread feeling the need to "arm themselves to the gills", please.

Keep in mind that one pistol is not "armed to the gills" while you are getting these quotes together.

Ain't worth going there for me. Reread the thread if you feel the need. Sorry if I touched a nerve because I don't wet myself when I have to go without my EDC. I am allowed however to have my Leatherman on me at work. Plus the screwdrivers, and other implements of death in my toolbox. I also have one of those cordless sawsalls. :D

Folks all have a different idea of what's "armed to the gills". A primary EDC, a BUG and a backup in the truck, plus a tactical knife and a multipurpose tool with two more blades to me is "armed to the gills". To others, it may be the barest of necessities. I have no problem with that and see no reason to go off topic and drift this thread any farther. My apologies to the OP if I have done so.

People forget things. So what - do you get preachy when someone locks their keys in the car?

Should have carried backup keys in an ankle key holster?

It happens.

Wait till you have to take your medicine in the morning and can't remember if you took it or your took it twice.

That's life.

A simple "you're right, Warp, nobody in this thread was talking about needing to be armed to the gills" would suffice.

Welllll locking your keys in your car probably doesnt' have the same possibility of immediately (as in, in seconds) meaning the difference between life/death as having a gun vs not having a gun. I suppose it could, but if so, you could probably break a window pretty quickly to get access to your car and the keys anyway. And if it's life/death (or serious bodily harm, forcible felony, etc), what's a broken window going to matter?

I've gotta fly back out to Arizona tomorrow for a few days for work and I guarantee that I won't forget my trusty 1911. Even going through TSA and such is worth it to me. I'll be right on the Mexican border and I'll feel a little safer for sure.

Have a good, safe trip. I used to live in Tucson. While you're packing your piece near the border, please say Hello to Arizona for me. I miss it. ;)
