I am looking at purchasing my first safe. My primary concern is keeping the guns locked up away from kids and deterring a burglar (i.e. juvenile). We live in a safe suburban neighborhood with low crime and the fire station is close by. All of our weapons could be replaced in case of a fire. We have 3 long rifles and 3 pistols but could see that doubling. I would like to spend $1-1.5k on the best in that range. Ideally, I want to get a steel door, 4 way bolting, 11 gauge or better, and made in the US. We're in Colorado. A safe dealer mentioned a Fort Knox Maverick 6026 at $1300 plus $150 for shipping. Is this a good deal? Or, is there something else I should consider?

Thanks!!

The Ft. Knox is not a true safe, it's an RSC, or Residential Security Container. It doesn't meet the U.L. build standard for safes. It may do what you desire though, & if so, that's fine, but do shop around a little. There may be another RSC out there that offers essentially equal protection for less money. Ft. Knox tends to run on the expensive side of things. However, if you want a better unit, take a look at the AMSEC BF series though they are more money. They're still not true safes, but are better RSC's. The AMSEC's will have a solid 1/2" plate steel door and better fire ratings. The two closest models are the BF6024 & the BF6030.

Fort Knox makes an excellant safe. I would suggest you get a larger safe than what you think need. Spend the extra money and get a larger Fort Knox. I've had mine for over 30 years and have had peace of mind of secure guns and papers.

CB900F - good to know...what other brands should I research? The Amsec BF is nice but out of my price point at this time. It's either stay within my range or wait.

Thanks!!
