I was going through three large bins of reloading manuals that I removed from my Dad’s house after he passed away in August. Then I came across something I was unable to locate thus far. His gold. First entry 5/10/84 and last entry 12/21/21. First entry 44 mag with 8.5 grains of unique behind a 185 wad cutter. Last load .357 with 14.5 grains 2400 behind a Hornady 125 grain hollow point. I now have all his secret loads. I am beside myself. In one way sad, and another happy. I remember back in 1984 being taught how to reload when I was home on leave.

I have my own gold. Just like dad, good records are a must. Below is what I found. To others it’s just an old notebook. I knew instantly what was within.

That’s amazing! I’m hoping I can find/have some of my grandpas. My uncle will probably want some… the one I want is his 270 win recipe… pretty sure I’ve cracked it, but having it in his writing… anyway… great find though I’m sure it’s bittersweet in a way…

Outstanding! 👍

You made me go look up my old loading data: oldest is March 1981. All it says is: 5.1gr Unique, Fed 100 primer, crimped flush; so probably a Lee wadcutter? I was casting round balls for my Muzzleloader by then but it looks like it took me a few more months/years to develop any kind of cartridge record that made any useful sense.

I probably won't be trying to duplicate that particular one...

Interesting memories and discussions. I bought my parents’ house in 1987. (Our 25 mile 1 1/2 hour commute into DC was killing us and they wanted to downsize and get out of area entirely.)

Anyway, everyday is a trip down memory lane—my reloading bench/shop was my Dad’s workshop too. (He wasn’t a reloader nor recreational shooter but did leave many tools behind.)

Even further down memory lane, the workshop is carpeted with my grandparents’ old living room carpeting I crawled around on as a kid (I’m 71).

Maybe a quarter of our 175 house neighborhood comprises second or third generation owners. A couple I knew as a teenager. Houses aren’t large nor fancy but schools are top notch and commute into town is only an hour.

I’m the only reloader I know of but several of us clandestinely go to the range.

Like your story @CQB45ACP. I have the Beltway (visit much too often), but understand the story. I am now the caretaker of the land that has been in the family since 1794. I walk the land that many generations before me have lived.
Wow! That’s a responsibility!

(In 1794 my ancestors were fighting the French over Alsace-Lorraine.)

PS—I hate the beltway too but watched it being built so it’s still part of home:)
