50 years ago I bought a High Standard Marshal new in box from the local hardware store, $89, my first handgun, its the top one in the pic. I have put over 5k rds thru it and is my go to gun to kill rats around my chicken coop. I have been looking for another one new hs mar 001.JPG new hs mar 007.JPG for the last 30 yrs and found one today at a local gun show. First one I have seen for sale, they only made them a few years in the early 1970`s. The new one is on the bottom of the pic, note the front sight is backward and the medallions in the grips are different.

Congratulations!

30 years is one heck of a wait. I’m glad you found another one.
I actually think it’s pretty cool that there are some subtle differences between them. It makes it unique. ;)

Cool find, I am glad you finally found one to fill that void.

I agree, the lower front sight seems to be backwards. It looks like some of the HS Sentinel revolvers had a sloped edge facing the shooter, but all of the images I looked at for the other SA guns made by HS had the vertical face to the rear like the top gun (Also like Colt Peacemakers and my Vaquero fixed-sight SA revolver.)

Maybe a worker was temporarily reassigned from the Sentinel line, who knows?

Stay safe.

took a closer look, another difference is the first one has case hardened hammer and trigger while the newer one is blued

Very cool story and good post. Congrats, I bet you had a moment when you spotted the one at the gun show. Beautiful guns.

I've always been interested in the HS Sentinel variations but never found one when I had the cash. I agree the lower gun seems to have the front sight backwards. Just looks odd to me.

Your new purchase seems to have a much smaller turn line, so less use perhaps.

Good luck with your new gun!
