Hi,

My name is Latham and I am the owner of "Rusty's Rags, Inc". We make and sell sheepskin gun cleaning cloths impregnated with silicone. Not only do our cloths clean and protect the gun, but they are the only cloth that can get in the many 'nooks & crannies' of the gun.

Now, the reason for this post is to give away some of our 'rags' for people to test them on their knives and give us some feedback of how well you guys like them and how they do. A lot of our gun customers already use them on their knives and they think they are great. We just need some extra feedback before we start offering them to the public.

If you are interested in 'testing' one of our gun cloths please email me with your name and address to: [email protected] and I will ship you one for free. I will even pay for the shipping and handling. All I ask is that you come back to this post and share your results.;)

I only have so many to offer so if I run out please don't be upset with me. I will leave a post on here that I am out when the time comes.

Look forward to the feedback!

Latham

Went ahead and emailed, as you know. I carry Kershaws, which tend to have a bunch of extraneous holes in them to catch dust and debris, as well as having a few guns that are notoriously difficult to achieve a "quick" wipedown on due to irregular shapes and small spaces. Definitely looking forward to testing these out! :)

I will happily give a free plug to Rusty's rags. I was fortunate enough to be sent one of his rags when they were given away to try. I have since ordered twice from him. I order for 6 small size then followed up with another order for the larger size. Great products and great folks.

I AM OUT OF FREE RUSTY'S RAGS! SORRY IF YOU DID NOT GET ONE. WE WILL TRY AND DO THIS AGAIN VERY SOON.

Thanks to everyone who emailed me to try out our Rusty's Rag on your knives. All have been shipped out so expect your package soon. Look forward to all of the feedback!

Latham,

Received mine today, thanks. Already used it on my two Natives. Removed almost all of a little rust that was on my Afghanistan Native.

I'll let you know how I like it on firearms, once I've had a chance to try it...

So I cleaned a knife and a few guns today with the rusty rags product that I received.

I started out cleaning an old fixed blade knife that I have kind of neglected for quite awhile. I cleaned it and it did remove the surface rust from the blade and shined it up nicely. I would say that it did do a good job cleaning the knife.

I then used it to clean a Beretta 92, Glock 32, and a SIG P226 that needed to be cleaned from my last range trip. The sheepskin/cloth combo did pretty good on cleaning the insides of the guns, but I did need to use a q-tip to get into the nooks and cranies of the G32. When I cleaned the outsides of the guns, the sheepskin put a nice even layer of the silicone on them and they polished up nicely. To get a comparison, I tried my usual spray of lube from an aerosol can with a wipe down and the rusty rags was definitely easier to apply and it looks a lot better.

Where the rusty rags really proved itself to me is when I used them to wipe off and clean my blued GP100 and my blued Ruger Single Six. They look so good now! Better than when I first bought them. The sheepskin/cloth combo was very easy to use when cleaning the revolvers and they did a great job of cleaning them up.

I finished up by giving a wipe down to my Bushmaster m4-forgery. The silicone was about used up by then, but there was enough left to wipe the rifle down and leave a thin layer of silicone.

Overall I am impressed with the product and I would recommend it. It would be a good item in a range or hunting bag, because it would make it very easy to wipe down a gun before it starts raining. Or if you are showing off a gun and want to wipe off all of the finger prints and smudges after it passes hands.

Thanks for letting me try out your product Latham.

Latham,
Got mine a couple of days ago (THANKS!) but wasn't able to try it out til today. I had mentioned I was interested on trying it on some computer parts as I do a lot of repairs on them. For those that may not know, sheepskin resists building a static charge. Well the sheepskin was really "wet" out of the bag with silicone so didn't go near any computer parts with it right off. Instead I busted out the knife collection, this is what you were interested in the most anyway right? :)
Holy Cow! What a nice job this thing did... had a few older knives that had some light rust on them and it cleaned it all off. The sheepskin was cut short enough and thin enough that it was able to get down in between the liners on most of folders and cleaned out all kinds of gunk. Left them all with a nice shine, very pleased with that.
Next I cleaned my .22 revolver.. it has a really nice blued finish on it but over the years it has developed this look of being permantly smudged with fingerprints. Once again, holy cow!.... looked like brand new when I got done with it.
After cleaning all the knives and a couple of handguns it now seemed "dry" enough to try on the computer. Got a laptop here that I had to replace the motherboard in. Got it all disassembled and I usually use canned air to blow out all the dust and it works great for that but doesn't really get the grime out. I used the sheepskin to clean out all the nooks and crannies in the case, cooling vents, heat sinks and so on. It worked beautifully.
So, I'm not saying everybody should tear their computers apart to clean them (you should call me for that) but if you do..... it's just another use for your Rusty's Rags. They're definitely killer on guns and knives... Excellent product Sir, thanks again!

I got mine today, and I think I will be buying a lot of these in the future to clean my 590 which had gotten a trip to the range recently.
The little rag is just down right easy to use and ergonomic, which is a funny way to describe a chunk of fur with silicone, but it's the best description.

Honestly, this is a great product that does exactly what it's supposed to.

5 / 5 for me.

I took advantage of Latham's offer right away and only got to try it this morning. I used it on my knife collection which consists of about 14 knives. 3 are in active rotation and 11 hang on a wall in a display case. 3 of my knives are Benchmades with black blades. They get kind of grey over time and the silicone cloth turned them a deep black again! The shiny blades gleam and the handles are all clean and new looking. My Schrade Uncle Henry looks better than when i bought it new! the wood grain of the handle is more visible and beautiful.

The silicone cloth comes very wet as advertised, so a flannel cloth is included for wiping off the excess, and works very well. This product is terrific and i look forward to using it to clean guns after my next trip to the range. Thanks, Latham for a great product!
