Today at noon, a local DC NPR talk show, the Kojo Nnamdi Show, will have its usual Friday discussion of DC politics. Guess what the topic is?

DC Politics Hour with Kojo and Jonetta

We look at the debate over "packing heat," as gun control advocates respond to the ruling against D.C.'s gun ban. Plus, we hear from a key player in the billion-dollar fight over school repairs. Join us for our weekly review of the politics, policies, and personalities of the District of Columbia.

Guests

Jonetta Rose Barras, WAMU resident political analyst and columnist for "The Examiner"

Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, Delegate, U.S. House of Representatives (D-DC)

Robert Bobb, President, D.C. Board of Education

Phil Mendelson, D.C. Councilmember (D-At Large); Chair of the Committee on the Judiciary

Nnamdi is famously anti-gun-owner ("The DC gun ban prevents registered gun owners from going out and committing crimes with their registered guns"), and Barras is RABIDLY so. Norton is even worse!:what:

I have a meeting that conflicts with the broadcast, so I can't listen or call in. If anyone has the time and the inclination to correct the expected misinformation these folks will be spewing, please do. They take calls from around the country all the time.

I've heard from a few folks on the "inside" in DC that the city attorneys are encouraging the Mayor & City Council NOT to appeal this ruling, because they know they'll lose. The city attorneys are scared of what a USSC ruling will mean.

So, since we gun owners want this case to go forward, should we call in as "anti's" and demand an appeal?

I sent a comment, but I doubt they'll read it on the air. The show has no pro gun voice at all amongst the guests...so who knows.

What a joke. Calling into NPR shows is impossible, you get nothing but busy signals.

Gee, they didn't stack the deck too much with that guest list did they? I guess they didn't want anybody saying something outside the party line.

Ha!

I got on the air for about twenty seconds.

I simply pointed out that if gun control made sense, DC and Baltimore would be the safest cities in the union...but by way of contrast, Virginia is actually one of the safest cities in the union.

They hung up on me and moved on to other subject pretty quickly.

I heard Kojo saying something about the overturning of the ban making it easier for bad guys to get guns. Which is, of course, incredibly stupid as there are no gun stores in DC. :banghead:

Just heard. . .

"Well, obviously the National Rifle Association has been busy today, we have a LOT of folks calling in wanting to talk about one issue and one issue only. . ."

Edit to add: :barf:

They keep mentioning the NRA?

Why?

This wasn't an NRA case (that I know of)

Yeah, not my best work...but at least I got a couple of cents in.

I only caught a glimpse of Kojo's response...something nonsensical about legal guns meaning more crooks have them as well. Never mind that there are no gun stores in DC in the first place, so it's not this ruling means that Joe Crook can go buy one at Walgreens now.

I think they're going to get to it in a minute...you can tell they're putting it off. Kojo just said something about the NRA being hard at work and thus the phone lines are busy...

Somebody should make the point that the NRA doesn't move that fast or care that much about NPR and that the reason this is provoking a lot of calls is because of its wide grassroots support.

There are a LOT of Pro Rights folks on hold for Kojo and he's ignoring us and leaving us all on hold and took a single Anti Rights person that they all resonate with....

This is the WORST of Publicly Funded Biased Programming.

LOL they go on a tear about guns and then the lady complains about the "Nanny State" when they discuss a law to make restaurants post calorie information.

Yeah, they're really avoiding talking about it. Ten minutes left in the show...

Good job on everyone who called in and tied up the lines. At least it got them to move on to another subject and Mendelsohn the city council jackhole didn't get much time to pontificate his BS for very long.

He's all atwitter about people carrying guns in public...gasp! You mean like in the 40+ states that allow CCW permits and yet are safer than DC?

I can't wait to meet that guy.

e-mail Kojo and let him know we will not be ignored because we have a diff opinion

Kojo, I wasn't surprised that you packed your show with guests that are sympathetic to your Anti Rights Agenda but frankly I expected you to be more professional in your coverage of the 2A Issues and the callers that waited on hold for upwards of 1 hour only to hear you ignore the dissenting opinions of your listeners while your guests employed slippery slope scare tactics

I will be sure to voice my complaint to NPR regarding your biased coverage to see if we can get your funding pulled. I can assure you that I will never contribute to WAMU ever again.

My Letter to Kojo

Dear Kojo,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I stopped supporting NPR based on this bias. Maybe you could try having two sides discuss or debate such topics in the future. Firearms in the hands of honest citizens are a great thing to combat thugery and violent crime. I have a concealed weapons permit from my State, and two out of state pemits from elsewhere. The three permits allow me to carry in 31 states total, thanks to a reciprocity agrement between them. 48 states allow concealed carry of somekind or another. Restricting law abiding citizens from self defense only emboldens criminals to the equivelant of letting a coyote loose in a farmyard full of sheep with no one to protect them (you can't count on police to protect you all the time if ever).

thanks, guys!

I caught the first ten minutes, but had to leave. I think I heard PGP talking about B-More, VA, and DC during that time. They sure got rid of him fast, then Barras made some crack about MD having "less restrictive laws," followed by something about "but B-More is crime-infested."

I guess I didn't miss much . . .I will have to listen tonight during the 8pm rebroadcast (can't stream audio at work).

I will get an email, out, too. The contact info I posted also has a post-show "comment" phone number.:D
