G17 opinions.

My G26 with the +2 mag extensions is nearly as big and my G19's. The slide is a bit shorter making is easier to conceal, but it is as shootable as my 19's or 17"s.

For shootability, I really like my 1Gen G17 a little bit better than my 3Gen G17. But, I do like the light rail on the 3Gen. Both are great shooters.

The G17 is THE benchmark 9mm hi-cap semi-auto pistol, a few are as good, but none are better. They're every bit a "classic" as much as any 1911 or Hi-Power.

G34's are longer, but that's about it, they share the same exact lower and feel almost identical, while I like the 34's I prefer the 17's, they got it pretty much right on the first try.

The Glock 17 is what a Glock 19 dreams of being when it grows up.:neener:

In all seriousness, you can't go wrong with a Glock 17. Some Gen4s have exhibited uncharacteristic unreliability, but Glocks is working on resolving the issue. Unless you're set on a Gen4, I would stick with a Gen3. Check the classifieds for excellent deals on NIB and LNIB. I've gotten excellent prices and superb service from www.scpfirearms.com

Looking into the G17. What do you guys think of it?

Pretty much perfect right out of the box. I took a Glock armorer's course 2 weeks ago, so I just had to put in a 3.5 trigger and other "upgrades." I took it to the range yesterday and the rounds were ejecting weird and the slide was not always locking back. I'm taking the "upgrades" out as soon as I get home.

Resist the urge, and leave it as it is - except for adding Heine straight 8 sights of course!

Thanks for the opinions guys. The .22 lr kit would be a good alternative with the exception that it makes a duty size weapon feel like a toy due to the lack of weight for reliable cycling. I want something that would be good for the range and for carry. But as far as upgrades go I'm thinking completely stock with the exception of night sights.
