At one time I owned a 45 caliber Gonic Arms barrel for the TC Contender. It was 16" long and in 45 caliber. It had a muzzle brake which made loading the gun a real pain in the rear. Due to that, I sold it.
I spoke with the people at TC and they informed me that they did not advocate the use of the Gonic barrels on the Contender due to gas blowback getting into the action and causing some problems with corrosion. I was told that they would not honor any sort of warranty on their guns if they were damaged by Gonic Arms.
Later, I saw that Gonic made a .50 caliber barrel for the TC Contender and I told myself one day that I will get one. Well, the owner of the company, Fred Rodney, died and so with him the company went.
I see that TC is now making muzzleloader barrels for the G2 Contender. TC states that the barrels will not fit the older style of Contender. I looked at some pictures( I haven't been able to inspect one up close) and I see what looks like a small metal rod at the bottom of the locking lug area. I hate to say it but five minutes with a Dremel tool would probably make it fit in the older style of frame. I don't think that corrosion would be an issue with the use of H777. That is all I ever use for my muzzleloaders anyways.
So I was thinking of in the future of getting one of those 23" barrels and having it cut down to 16" for carbine/specialty pistol use and cutting off that protrusion so it will fit the older Contender.
Has anyone here handled the new G2 muzzleloader or muzzleloading barrels? Would this be workable or would it be a waste of time and money?
