Shot a Galil ACE in 556 at our local rifle match Saturday and have a few observations:

1) This rifle fits me. It doesn't feel like a 8lb (loaded) rifle when shouldered and shooting.
2) Ergonomics are great. All of the controls are easily reachable, if you're right handed like me.
3) Had 1 stoppage (FTEject) during the match out of about 120 rounds fired. If this keeps up I will be sending it back for warranty repair.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with it. During zeroing before the match I was getting groups in the 2MOA range with 55gr ammo. I tried some SS109 and 75gr OTM too but it was too windy for me to make any general statements about accuracy.

That said, here are the pics. The rifle has about 500 rounds on it at this point.

Somewhat distressing for a gun derived from an AK and given its price point. Hopefully it was just a fluke. I'm interested in the 7.62x39 version.

Yes, it is. I mentioned it because it is unacceptable.

Hopefully it doesn't turn out like the Mini-14 where I needed to send it back 3x before they fixed its intermittent FTEject. The nice thing is that I have a warranty and can get this fixed, even if it requires a new rifle to do so.

I have a 181-series Mini-14 and my father (now) has a 182-series Mini-14 and they have been flawless since the day I bought each of them. I'm very sorry to hear that you had problems with yours and hope that's not a sign that Ruger quality has slipped in recent years.

I think what was going on was tolerance stacking between the receiver, bolt, and ejector. They finally got it fixed after replacing the bolt and ejector.

Sometimes parts that are all in tolerance individually are out of spec when used together. It's nice to have factory support since they have access to a whole bin of bolts and ejectors they can try until they find a set that work together.
