I was at my local Gander Mountain today and they had a ton of primers. Most were CCI but they also has some Winchester and Federal primers. I'm a little low on SRP's so I took a look and then I saw the price. They were marked $4.99/100. When I asked the clerk how much for a full box he said $49.90, no discount for buying the whole box.

Now, I know prices have gone up but come on now, a big outfit like them can surely get primers for a better price than my local mom & pop store can. Last week my local shop had CCI primers for $29.95/1000 so really now!!! I was going to buy a box because I was there but there was no way I was going to pay $50 when I can buy them for $30 on Friday from my local store when the next shipment comes in... (I won't even mention GM's ammo prices)

I should have known better than to think they would stop treating their customers like crap!!

Sounds like my experience. I had to pay that price for 100 the other day cause.... well... I was new to reloading and impatient and wanted them now. Not a real market price but they sure got away with it from me :)

After this, I wonder how many will keep a hoard of primers on hand.

At the height of the shortage I saw primers on gunbroker.com listed at well over $100 per thousand...and they were selling.

A great many more people will be ready for the next shortage, that's for sure.

Pretty much EVERYTHING at Gander Mountain is WAY overpriced. In fact, I'm amazed that there are enough suckers out there to keep them in business.

I'd say a good percentage of the stuff at Gander mountain costs 50% more than at pretty much any other store so the price of those primers in right in line with that. Sometimes you can find stuff pretty cheap there, but it's ususally rare.

All I've seen at near reasonable prices are garishly colored leftover t-shirts with their advertising all over them ... but I can get gun cleaning rags cheaper elsewhere.

I made my first (and last) trip to GM last Monday and was shocked by their prices (I saw the same prices on the primers too). May be the first time I've ever left a place with so many gun goodies empty handed.:(

Yup, $4.99/100 here too. My local distrubutor had CCI SPs, 2,000 for $55 tax included. No LRs though.
I did find a nice Columbia jacket marked way down. But yes, as a rule they're high.

Gander's prices

What's with them anyway? They built a new store here a couple years ago and ever since their prices have been nuts. When they first opened the new store, I was checking out the new new Rem v barreled rifles. Their price was $100.00 more than the Scheels store just down the road. I told the clerk about the price difference and he as much as called me a liar. I went directly to Scheels and bought the Rem and took the slip into Gander and showed the clerk. He didn't have a reply, but plenty of people in the gun department did!! My son was in town last week and wanted to see the new store, so we headed out there again. This time my son was going to pick up a pound of H335 powder. Gander's price, $29.99 a pound. I told the clerk that Scheel's had it for $21.99 a pound. This clerk called Scheels and confirmed the price and matched the price. Gander's old store prices were pretty competative before they rebuilt the new place.

You should see the prices they have on powder. I wanted a one-pound container of Lil'Gun for my .22 K-Hornet, and it was going to be $28 with tax. MidwayUSA has it for around $14 when it is in stock. I am willing to pay a premium due to the Hazmat fee involved with shipping powder, but that much of a premium is too rich for my blood.

After the last great shortage, I set a number for each type primer I use. When I get down to that number I order more. I had primers on backorder at two places in '09. Never got down to a hand wringing level. Even loaned a few thousand to friends. One B/O took four months (arrived in July). I was expecting a hefty price increase; $118 per 5K. I'm a customer for life

Been criticized for hoarding, but I kept myself and a few others in the game.

Speaking of GM, my wife bought me a 30-30 Marlin from there last fall for my 60th. The scope wasn't aligned vertically and a screw was stripped. I took it back for a fix, which Marlin authorized the store to do.
When I picked it up, the scope and screw were fixed, but on the left side of the receiver there were now three good scratches. One of them more like a gouge. :cuss: Never again. Take it back again? No way. I don't want them near it.
I've learned my lesson; support the local gun shop.

When Klinton was looking like he was going to win, I went around town and bought every primer I could find based on the gun rags predictions of shortages. They would ask..... "Do you know something I don't?"... "Nah, just need some primers".

After getting through the Klinton shortage (which was nothing compared to this), I set 3K per type primer as a minimum, but upped that pre-obama. [5K (min) put back & 3K (min) working stock]

Glad I did. I am down below 1K of large rifle (never stocked those up), but am good on eveything else. Haven't had to break into my stash yet. Still working on the working stock. I did cut back shooting a little as well, to help stretch the supply.

gander mountain in beaumont texas has just about everything. over 200 LBS of powder, and primers.. gold medal federal.. you name it. winchester & CCI.

they want 30$/# powder and 80$ a brick for gold medal match.

talk to the manager, because they say they'll beat anyone's price. they'l beat carters country and sell them at about 24/lb and 39/brick but they wont beat midway or powder valley since they aren't storefronts...

bought them out of varget, GM match large pistol, GM Match large rifle, and 231.. they still have about two 8 lb jugs of clays i want.. and some winchester large rifle primers..

Ouch! :(

I usually only go there to browse, cleaning supplies and the occasional package of Snap-Caps. Don't think I would ever buy a gun from them though.

hoarder!

I paid almost 40$ for a pound of 4064 and god knows how much on primers just a few weeks ago. They were all that I could find. The gunshow last weekend caught me off guard, but they had 4064 for 18$ and primers 30$/1k. Makes me sick.
