Gander Mountain prices

Do all Gander Mountains have the same prices on their firearms?
I was in one today and noticed that some of their prices had gone up...Stoeger Coach gun was $299 now its $349....they were even asking $799 for the Taurus PT 1911 w/ night sights! (even the clerk was floored!!)

GM seems to think their guns are very special indeed.

USED Glock 22 for $599?

USED Bersa Thunder .380 for $299?

USED Sig P229 for $799?

USED Mossberg 500 for $279?

Does anybody ever pay those prices? I could get NEW versions at the local gun shop for as much or less.

There's a Gander Mtn. near me with a Sportsman's Warehouse literally across the street. SW gets much more of my business and has much better prices. Gander mountain even priced their reloading components at least $10 higher than SW.

I have seen about 15-20 Gander Mountain threads between all the gun forums lately - and they are all neg.

I've seen a PS90 for $2100. They want $1299 for a Five Seven pistol - I paid $779 for mine. Who's gonna pay $500 extra!

I will admit that there is a used SW99 that looks brand new for $359 at my local Gander - only decent priced gun they have in there. And, it was $550 until 2 weeks ago.

I have yet to see a decent priced gun of any type in our local Gander Mountain. I dont know how they can stay in business. Even their used gun prices are way higher than the price of a brand new gun at another shop in the area. I was looking at a used CZ75b, and it was $110 higher than I ended up paying brand new! I swore right then and there that I would never set foot in that store ever again!

The best advice I can give on Gander Mountain is to leave the store immediately and buy elsewhere. GM stores make for great eye candy, but their prices are a joke.

I bought a couple of guns there....Got to go to their sales, and shop....
Otherwise, I saw a pound of W296 for $29.95 today!!! Ammo, way too high, compared to competiors, and guns aren't cheap either....

I used to love the used gun rack at Gander. Now the guns there are at least $100.00 above the nearest competitors.

They have an odd formula they use to determine the price of a used gun. I think its something like MSRP (which as far as i know, no one pays) divided in half, and then they add 30 percent or something. It seems to make used glocks frequently only 10 dollars less valuable than brand new ones . I haven't tried to buy anything from them, but i know they have price matching on new guns, and i assume theres some wiggle room with the used ones.

The only deal I ever see at Gander Mountain are Mosin-Nagants for less than $100. It's still a bit more expensive than you can find online but as these already have the cosmoline cleaned off, I think that's worth the extra $20-30.

I've got a few good deals on used guns from GM, but it seems as if those days are over. Their new prices seem WAY high and their used prices have gotten worse, esp. in the last 3-6 months. I don't know what's up with the management of this company, but they need to get their act together FAST! I make it a point to avoid the local Cabela's on Sat/Sun because the place is an absolute madhouse. Go to a GM on the weekend, and it's an absolute ghost-town.

Their business model is just all wrong. They're too big/have too much inventory to survive with such paltry foot-traffic, and they're too small to be a "destination" like Cabela's. They're like a Sportsman's warehouse, but with more inventory and less traffic.

I wouldn't mind the high prices so much if they were Mom/Pop, but I'm not going to pay those prices at a store that should have volume pricing like a chain should (and is staffed by Mom/Pop's mentally challenged teenage offspring).

I really think there are some folks (MBA's) with this company who HOPE they do poorly so that talks of a sale of the corporation will lift the stock price. Apparently, they must think there is more profit in that than in running a retail business that sells stuff in any kind of volume.

I realize that Cabela's prices are somewhat inflated, too. However, if you have their Visa card, they routinely send out coupons that will knock $50 of a $200 sale, or $100 off a $500 sale. My prediction is that GM will not last more than another couple of years if they don't change their ways soon.

Walther P-38s, ex police trade-ins for $299 ain't bad at all. Sig 225, ex-police trade-ins (P6s) for $350 ain't bad either (especially if you get to pick through them all and find those with very little outside and inside wear.

But 99 percent of their gun prices are just rediculous. I mean smoken crack prices.

WAY high on used FA. Not bad on some ammo. Not all ammo. Don't remember specifics, so not posting them.

Their prices used to be pretty decent. Not as cheap as Bud's, but not bad either. I think their little 'Warranty Plan' that seems to be included in all gun purchases has been put into the price.
Still, I managed to get a Beretta 21A for a decent rate.

As for ammo... some of their HP loads are a dollar per round. For handgun ammunition. Rifle ammunition (for everything not .223 or 7.62x39) seems to go for a dollar per round, too.

For the last two weeks, the Gander Mountain in Geneva has a used Kel Tec .380 priced HIGHER than a new one. Nothing special about the used one, no after market parts or extra mags. That blew my mind. I suspect it is still there.

I did an informal survey of prices in the Chicagoland area two weeks ago. Gander Mountain had the worst prices on new guns. On used guns, it is just random! The pricing above on the Kel Tec is just stupid. But I got a Beretta 84 (blue) that was in very nice condition for $279 - at the store in Joliet. A guy showed me a new-looking Taurus 817 (the 7-shot snubnosed .38 special, in blue) that he bought a few days prior and was picking up. The price he got it for was $160! Not too long I saw the Geneva store selling a Ruger SP101 in immaculate condition for $249 and thought that was a pretty fine deal but passed because I already own one.

So I check them out on used guns.

I saw that too, at Geneva. I have one that I bought from G.A.T. Guns for $899, not as good of a price as yours, but way better than Gander. It came with 3 mags, I don't know if that made a difference or not.

I've bought a few guns at the local GM. Sometimes their prices are good. Sometimes they're not. I buy when they are, and when they're not, I don't.

Seems simple to me.

Just had a GM open here

Gander Mountain opened over in my area in just the last two weeks. First of all, I'm all for competition in the business field but it opened literally down the street from the current biggest gun/sporting store in the whole greater Richmond area(Green Top) and we only had 3 real gun stores to being with. I get the impression that they're not exactly there to meet the additional demand. Anywho... Having gone in there their prices really are ridiculous. Their Taurus 1911 for ex (w/nightsights) was $849 There was a Kimber laying next to it on display for that exact same price. In general the prices on most firearms was pretty bad. The ammo selection and prices was kind of a hit or miss. I don't think my local mom and pop stores are going anywhere.

Just to top this off (a little off topic) I was there with a friend who has a real interest in buying his first handgun ('twas a once special time in all our lives). We tried to get some help so he could handle some of their handguns and see how they felt etc. Not only did we receive no help after a whole hour of standing and looking, but even when we asked for it the clerk kinda mumbled something and just walked off. So yea... sorry to put a place down like this but I'm just not impressed with the GM here. The Wal Mart attitude without the Wal Mart prices.

Gander can be hit or miss. If you like mil-surps, it's kind of like looking at Frankenstein sometimes.

For example:
The 1898 Krag that needed to be re-blued and wedged into a Winchester model 70 stock: Only $600

Or the cream of the crop:
An M1 Garand that had its bolt chromed, and put into a full-length mannlicher stock complete with decorative plastic diamond shape. The iron sights were removed, and generic ultra-ultra-high rings were installed. A real steal at only $1099

My son & I were just talking about the "New" GM prices the other day so I stopped in was shocked to see the reloader items that went up in price.
A 100ct box of Nosler C/T Ballistic SilverTip 55gr bullets used to be $15 but now were $21! It's not just the reloading supplies, either, but the rifles & pistols prices sky-rocketed, also.
Even Cabela's is lookin' good!

They seem to change their prices faster than I change my underwear and usually the change is in the upward direction. I've only ever bought one firearm from there and it was one of their advertised specials. That's about the only way you're gonna get a deal from them. Usually their stuff is way over priced compared to my local shops around here in the Triad area of NC.

A couple of months ago, someone was telling me that they were building a GM "right next to Greentops. I guess they'll put Greentops out of business."

It was all I could do not to laugh out loud. Yea, I've bought a few guns from them, but they're not going to put any half competently run business under, that's for sure.

My favorite GM price story. They (the Fredericksburg store) had a used Ruger MK II, NRA endowment edition in the case last year. Someone had rubbed white crayon in all the rollmarking. Looked really nice on the dark gun, with the white plastic grips. They only wanted $599.00 for it. It was a "rare" gun the clerk told me while rolling his eyes. (This guy and I are pretty good friends. He was about to bust out laughing too.)

I had bought one just like it, without the crayon, at the same store, three months before, for $219.00. (Wish I'd bought a couple of them.)

Man, those things went up fast.

In Houston, I often see people who don't seem to know much about firearms buying their first or second gun.

how about a Kimber 84 for $3,500 or a Glock for $600?

Maybe we should write their general managers and let them know that they are missing sales because of their crazy prices.
