Gander Mountain's Used Guns

Gander Mountain is way over priced here. Sportsmans Warehouse is much cheaper and thier people know what they are talking about

except none of the sports man warehouses around here carry or deal in used guns, only new.

+1 on Guns Galore, I drive 160mi round trip to shop there.
I got a perfect SA TRP in SS for $825, I called Springfield to ask about warranties on used guns, they said it would not be covered but they would work with me in the event of an issue, which there was none.

At Cabelas I picked up an old HK P7 PSP for market price, what I liked about that buy was that they gave me 30 days to decide if I wanted to keep it.

I didn't even know Gander sold used guns, I will check it out.

Finally, there is a new Sportsmans Warehouse in Allen Park, small selection, fair but not great prices, and no used guns. But its only been open about 3 weeks.

Unless Springfield has changed their policy since, I was told by them that the warranty was for the life of the pistol. Providing it was a lifetime warranted pistol when sold new. Apparently they originally didn't offer a lifetime warranty.

Normally GM will give your 70% of blue book value on a gun you bring to them, depending on condition.

Wow! Compared to the other stores around here that is a most generous trade in policy. I cannot tell you the horror stories I personally have experienced and seen at the local shops. You come in with a $1K gun and the shop offers you $100 for it and gives you the third degree that they gave you so much for it. Then the resell it and list it for $1200.

Next time I'll try them and see what they offer.

My aunt bought a Taurus PT25 at Gander Mountain and I took her to the range. The first clip thru it busted both handgrips (Pearl). Since it was less than 30 days, we took the gun back and they would have no part of it. They said it is the manufacturers warranty only. They said they knew these guns were having this exact problem but still sell them anyway. They would not take it back or apply for a trade. They did offer to buy it back but said we would get very little since the grips were broken!
I was a regular customer but will buy my guns from the local guy from now on.

You never know what you'll find.
That's the joy of stopping in to drool over the latest batch on display. I just found another one this week at the Fredericksburg Virginia store. I simply pass on the ones priced too high and wait and watch for the occational bargain. You never know what you'll find...sometimes a very pleasant surprise.

One of our classiest local gun stores has a lifetime guarantee on its used guns. I bought a used Colt Cobra (38 spl) for a great price (the ol' divorce sale, I think).

The used prices at the big box stores = the new prices at the gun show.

My experience with our local Gander is that they will try to bend you right over on a trade in, period. Best to buy outright.
As for their prices on used guns, in general they are outrageously high, with a few really good deals that slip through the cracks if you stay on top of what they have in the case....I once picked up a very clean no dash S&W 686 4" for $225 :D

I tried to sell a S&W M619 to GM during the summer. They offered my $182 for a gun when new goes for $700. They tried to run some line past me about paying a percentage of the Blue Book price and then they only mark it up the the Blue Book price. What a load that was.... The next day I got $325 cash from a dealer at the gun show.

A friend sold a 4" GP100 to GM for $200. I told him he was nuts for taking only $200 and that if I knew he was willing to take only $200 for his revolver I would have been more than willing to pay him that price. A few days later he went back to the same GM and saw the revolver he sold them for $200 marked $595. That's right, a revolver that has a list price of $635 that they bought for only $200 was marked $595. Like I already said, what a load of crap GM is pushing.

The GM near you might be better but the one by me has little to no competition so they think they can do as they please. Their prices on ammo and reloading components are extremely high too. I can't shop there anymore because of their outrageous prices.

Every once in a while at GM you come in and find something outrageously underpriced -- because one of the employees is probably trying to set themselves up with a sweetheart deal.

I grab every one of those I can, because it serves them right for all the other stuff they pull.

Well you all made me look. I picked up a spotting scope at Gander. The online price is 25% higher plus S&H compared to what I paid.

:neener::neener::neener::evil:

The Gander Mountain price on receiving guns is $35, even if it comes from another GM. I find their prices to be a high variable. I cruise the used and check the sales.

Geoff
Who bought a $50 shirt at GM for $15 on sale and a $20 hat for $6. The amazing thing is, they close out summer goods...in FLORIDA!

I find most prices high at GM. Hornady L-L-P $399 Cabela's $369, new rifle brass 50% to 75% higher then Cabela’s. They are way high on both new and used guns.

I have bought one handgun from them. The price was a little high, but it was the only one I could find around and I really wanted it. I have had no issues with it, but they do offer some kind of extended warranty with their firearms. I find their prices to be high, and their service so-so. I would rather spend my $$$ with a local gun dealer, they are usually much cheaper than GM and offer better service and have better knowledge about firearms.

I have bought several guns from GM and have gotten some serious deals the list is as follows glock 17 350.00 glock 22 350.00 sig 226 400.00 para p14 450.00 beretta 96 NIB 300.00 smith and wesson 1000 250.00 and my all time favorite a colt commander 45 acp 399.00 .you just have to stop by all the time.and remember that sales reps are all underpaid

I've bought one gun from GM and the whole thing was a cluster**** from beginning until the time the manager refunded my money the very next morning.

My experience:

Saw a really good looking 1917 S&W with original stocks and lanyard loop in the case for $300. Decided to buy it. Filled out the 4473... They took my money and then looked in their computer system to log it out/whatever they do. The sales guy comes back and tells me that someone else(a store employee) already has it on layaway and he doesn't know why it was in the case, but the entries in the computer didn't really make sense either. So, they start trying to call the employee who had it on layaway. Takes an hour to get in touch with him. He says he changed his mind and doesn't want it. They finally let me leave with the gun I paid for an hour earlier.

I get home and start really looking the gun over. Something doesn't look right about the gap between the rear of the cylinder and the recoil shield/breechface. I go get a moonclip full of fired cases and drop it in the cylinder. Cylinder won't close/moonclip hangs on recoil shield. I take the moonclip out and look at the chambers....hmmm, the throats sure do look like they're cut for a longer cartridge.. I go get a fired .45 Colt case and it fully seats in the cylinder. Some jerkwad replaced the cylinder with one from a .45 Colt New Century. Disgusted, I throw it in the safe and go to bed. Went over first thing in the morning, returned the gun, and got a full refund.

As if that wasn't bad enough, they told me they'd only give me $170 for my Brazilian contract 1917, even though their book showed it was worth $280. I laughed in their faces.

The used gun prices at the local GM are almost always either the same as a new gun, or just a few bucks less. Their new gun prices are crap too. Same with ammo. I basically just go there to look and fondle(and laugh at their pricing).

i bought a used gun from gander mountain.i stripped it when i got home and it had alot of problems, none of wich they felt were significant enough to fix under the warranty.

that mistake cost me 750$

there customer service included the gun smith calling me and saying that all damage was insignificant, then asked me to come pick it up. i was stupid to not stripping it at the store before buying it.
