I sold my 6.5 Creedmoor since I had it boxed in performance wise with the 6.5 Grendel and my 7mm-08 i had no use for it. so I sent it on down the road, decided I wanted a bolt action 5.56 to compliment my AR and ran across a GenII Ruger American Ranch today for $599 as soon as I picked it up I knew it was coming home with me, I have Gen I in 6.5 Grendel and love the thing so this one is a no brainer. I do need to get a new scope for it but for the moment I put a butt ugly $20 konus on it so I can shoot it, range report soon

Just brought home a Gen II American ranch in x39.

The fluted barrel, 3 position safety with bolt lock, and muzzle brake among other features and upgrades were appealing.

Put a Bushnell Banner on it I had lying around and I’ll head out to the range when I have time to try it out.

I haven't seen one of the new ones in person yet. They look good. I had one of the original Ranch 5.56 rifles and liked a lot about it. But the Ruger Predator in 223 that took AR mags was a LOT more accurate and even my AR would shoot a little better. It just didn't fill a role for me between those 2.

Once I see one in person I might be tempted to give one of the new ones a try. The price is hard to swallow. I've had 4 of the Ruger Americans in the past. I didn't pay more than $350 for any of them.

Seems Ruger is up-ing their game in the budget-rifle space which must be a tough space to survive in. I think that’s good. I can’t stand the Salvage rifle and think they are cheesy, but that’s me. I know they have a following. I do wish Ruger would bring back the boat paddle M77.

On the RAR, I felt the first Gen was cheap-feeling. The Gen2 is definitely a step up from all that I’ve read.

I'll take the negligible rise over the added noise, muzzle blast and blowing debris in certain situations.

Guy at LGS the other day was looking for a thread protector for his new gen II. Said it was the loudest 223 he ever shot.

I'm interested in one of these as well. Only want the 20 inch barreled version.
Can't wait for your range report.

Really wish the barrel wasn't fluted, I don't like spiral fluting. Otherwise it looks like a great improvement. Might need to grab a gen 2 stock for my old American...
