After many threads read and comparing, I will be getting – well actually waiting for delivery – a Savage 111GNS 30-06 :). It was between the Savage and the Remington. The price on the Savage was too good to pass. Anyway, I was getting ready to purchase the scope when I found out about Vortex. After reading many posts and reviews, I have come to the conclusion to purchase a Vortex Viper, and here is where I need your help, opinion, input, and knowledge.
I am trying to decide between these two models to mount on my brand new rifle:
4-12X40PA and 3.5-10x50 – both have the same price 239.00 :what: – and this is one of few reasons why I picked these two. The reticle will be the V-plex.
The rifle will be use for both hunting and range shooting, and I am not sure which one will be best.
Also, if you can recommend rails and rings – I have in mind a Weaver tactical base with medium 1” rings from Vortex.
I understand that there are other brands out there with proven record, but I think for the price and quality of these models you cannot go wrong.
Thanks.

Id go with the PA model for the side focus feature. 50mm objectives are overrated and don't serve much purpose until you get into higher magnifications or low light scenarios.

Congrats!! Just a thought on saving some money.

I have purchased many things from both Opticsplanet and Buds. Sometimes if Buds has what you are looking for send them an email about the product or a comparison/question.

Both times I have done that I received a response along with a discount code and was able to purchase (my last scope Nikon 223) just about $50 dollars less than anyplace else to include Opticsplanet. Poor sentence construction up late and haven't had my coffee yet but you prolly get my drift.

If you buy that mount you're likely to want low rings. I bought an EGW one piece picatinny for my 700 and promptly sent it back. With low rings I could mount a 50mm objective scope with caps and still had 1/4" between the scope and barrel. I opted for 2-piece Burris bases coupled with ARMS #22 low rings. These can still clear the larger scope but just barely and the Buttler Creek cap touches.

Choose gear that works not because it looks cool. I'd recommend a Sightron scope for that money but given the models you're looking at the PA model is preferable.

Vortex gets great reviews. Their warranty is very good as well. Lot of scope for the money. For a deer rifle though, I think you are overdoing it with the 4-12 and potentially with the 3.5-10. You really don't need much magnification to hunt. I would buy something in the 2.5-7x range and buy a good pair of binoculars to glass with. Vortex, Sightron, Nikon Buckmaster, Bushnell Elite 3200, Burris, and Leupold VXII all make good scopes for the dollar. Pick the one that makes you all warm and fuzzy inside.

Benzy I am glad you bring this up, because after more reading I found a Vortex Viper 2.5-7x32 for 169. I think this is the one I will be getting, and as you recommend get a good pair of binoculars.

Thanks all for your input. As soon as I get my new rifle and scope, I will get some pics and start a new thread.:)

Because Remingtons are just horrible! Mine shoot poorly. I don't know why I keep buying them.
