So, I'm finally getting around to getting my classes and my paperwork done so that I can get into the mix and I was wondering if you guys could help me out.

It's going to be my first time hunting and I was wondering if there were any particular sort of game that someone could recommend to hunt in Florida between Feb 7th (when all the work is finished on my end) and around May 10th (when I go back to Colorado).

Also, I was wondering if one takes hunter's ed in one state if it remains valid in another state, in this case Florida and Colorado, so that one can get licenses in both. And if it helps to know, my permanent residence is in Colorado but I spend most of my year down here in Florida due to school.

Thanks in advance for your replies! I hope that I can get back on here more often!

Right now thru March you it's small game season - my favorite. There's hardly anyone in the woods and you see a lot of animals that are coming out during daylight.

Go to myfwc.com for more details.

As far as I know if you have a Colorado hunting licence you can get one here, but check anyway.

My favorite game here in Florida are hogs.

If you go to the county office in Daytona they should have the flyers for the different Wildlife Management Areas. I know this one is near you. http://myfwc.com/recreation/cooperative/tiger_bay.asp

Look those over and see if there is one near you that allows hog hunting during the spring season. And also see which ones allow center fire rifles for hogs during the spring season, if any. We had a couple here that used to allow them, but they changed the rules a while back.

Florida has plenty of game so you should do ok. And don't be shy about asking to hunt private land. It is tough to get, but you never know? Some school chum may have an uncle with land in that area.

A friend's uncle just got a 100 acres just north of Gainesville so we're going to go ahead and ask if we can take hog there.

Thanks for the help!

If you can get access try to shoot them behind the ear if possible. That will take them down quickly. And bring a sharp knife, ice and a big cooler.

Hope you get one.
