In talking with fellow students at Thunder Ranch, one thing we all noted, as with competitions such as IDPA, was that we were already at a very high level of awareness before starting one of the drills in the simulators and felt that in being so aware, we were probably performing at a higher level of focus than we might be able to do in most real life situations where there are countless additional situational variables that reduce our ability to be able to perform at our best. So a buddy of mine came across this web site and suggested using it as a teaching aid, somewhat akin to the reflex tester website that times your reaction time to a stimulus.

He thought this particular web site would appeal to me because of my continued interest in debunking things and have a special debunk interest for supposed haunted places. If you have ever seen the hokey shows on the SciFi channel where they communicate with the dead or see the 'orbs' thought to be spirits floating by, then you know what I am talking about. She thought I might like this picture that supposedly shows the faint image of a ghost. I am not sure that I believe it to be real or not, but it is compelling. Everything that follows below is what he sent me...

Double Naught Spy,
Before you click on the blue link at the end of this letter, read the following story, turn up the volume on your computer just a little, and look
very carefully for the ghost. It may take a minute or so before you see it, but when you do, you will be amazed. Keep in mind that you should search this picture much like you would be searching through the Terminator Simulator at Thunder Ranch. Look everywhere, even unusual places within the image. Like bad guys, ghosts can do a pretty unique job of hiding as well. You should find the ghost before the ghost finds you if you search carefully. If it takes you more than a minute, then you are probably probably missing/overlooking key threat indicators that you should not have missed. Remember, Clint loves posing the question "What does the threat look like?" and his response is, "I don't know." The idea is that threats take on all sorts of sizes and shapes and in a given situation, it may be the granny with a gun, not the Hells Angel biker who is the actual threat.

If it will make you feel better, you can do your searching using your finger gun. Your coworkers would probably appreciate it if you didn't have out your real gun for running this simulated search.

Now for the story...

Apparently the owners of this house had been seeing images and hearing voices for quite sometime. They did some research and found that a lady once lived in the house who lost her husband during the civil war. Legend says that she used to sit at the table and look across the fields in anticipation of her loved one returning home. He never came. So, they say she still waits... This is sort of typical of many ghost stories like this where the ghost isn't evil, but is the soul of a person who has suffered greatly and apparently waits in eternity for healing and closure - in this case, for her love to come home.

They caught this photo of what they claim to be her. This one was wild and a little spooky once you find the ghost in the picture. It took me a few
seconds to find it, but when you do, it just stands out. Like one of those optical illusions. To save you some time, concentrate around the table. Best not to focus too much on one spot. Look around the table and between the windows. It takes minute or so for your eyes to focus on it, so don't give up.

It's faint, but you can hear the ghost talking sometimes in a low murmur. It is part of a recording they made when the picture was taken. Apparently, they took hundreds of pictures and made hours of recordings where nothing showed up or was heard. So whether this is just a random event of camera angle and a play of light, combined with supposed ghost sounds, who knows?

Okay, how did you do? How long did it take you to find the ghost? Do you find the ghost before the ghost found you?

Have a safe and happy Halloween!

I didn't click the link. But you'll be glad to know I jumped back about a foot the first time I did. . . .

I have not clicked on the link yet but I suspect this is the same damned thing that made me almost **** my pants last Halloween where the "ghost" jumps out at you and screams (thus the turn up the sound just a little). Well, all I can say is lucky I didn't have a heart problem or I'd be pushing up tulips today. Nice try DNS, but I ain't falling for it again.
