I want to get my father-n-law something really nice for father's day this year. We had a cruise planned with my partner's parents for this may and I just found out they never cashed the check I sent them to pay our half and then paid for it themselves as a gift to us. Therfore, I want to get them both nice mother's/father's day gifts. I will buy her jewelry but for him I want to get a nice revolver with wooden grips. I then want to have his monogram or family crest etched into the handle. I need some advice on what gun to get. He is a doctor, 70 yrs old, 6ft tall, 170lbs, kind of conservative, loves guns, loves knives and lives in Mississippi. I am very partial to Rugers and was thinking something in the lines of a nice Ruger single action revolver. Love to hear suggestions (especially from you gents in his age or physical size range) as to what model, caliber, finish, etc. :)

Maybe a Ruger Vaquero(sp?), or Cabellas has a nice SA .45 at a great price. It actually won Gun Tests' Best Buy award.

I bought my fatherinlaw a stainless ruger mk II. He loves it and it's cheap for him to shoot (which he does often at varmint animals around his property).

For my own father, I'm contemplating a Vaquero, polished s/s (with ivory grips) in .357 and getting one myself... s/n in sequence. To make it special I may have it engraved with something (love, your son... his initials... ??)

I am kind of looking mostly for advice on caliber. I am afraid some guns might be too much for a 70yr old man of small build to shoot confortably.
