I just glass bedded a rifle using a kit I got from the local gun shop, it was not Accuglass and seems very brittle to me. My question though is about the release agent. I needed to fill a large area to support the chamber area of the rifle and used an epoxy filler...the kind that comes in two parts with the consistency of clay that you mold together.

The epoxy filler worked so well that I decided to bed the next rifle with only the epoxy filler but am at a loss of what to use for a release agent. Will a light coat of wax or grease work?

I like using non-stick cooking spray. Like PAM or your local generic brand equivelant.

It gets in all the corners and is super easy to clean off afterwards unlike that Brownells blue stuff.:uhoh:

PAM works as a spray, or you can use carnuaba paste car wax.

I used Acraglas to bed my first rifle, and while the results were satisfactory, I found the process to be very messy.

Since then I have used Devcon Plastic Steel and have found it to be excellent stuff! (you just can't dye it the color of your stock like you can Acraglas).

Also, I have heard of people using JB Weld to bed a rifle, sort of the El Cheapo route, but probably works great, too.

Think I'll give Pam a try!

Pam for a release agent that is! Should be really convienient to apply. Think I'll 'borrow' some from my wife....while she is out shopping.

I've used Accuglass on several other rifles and it works well, but it is a bit sloppy.

The material I tried (and will try again) is similar to the JBweld but a different name brand. I think it will work well, but you have to be quick, seems to setup in several minutes and much more economical than the kits....I don't need nifty little mixing cups and popsicle sticks, etc. Gues that's why the kits cost so much.

I've never heard of Devco Plastic Steel...is it something I can get at the local auto parts store?
