Glock 17 & 19 Reliabiliy / Durability

No, but the NYPD had some issues with a few of the G19 Second Generations they issued in the 90's.
Glock made the bevel cut in the barrel to correct what was probably more ammo related issues.
As far as 3rd Gen's there appears to be no difference in quality or reliability.
My first Gen G17 and 17L are as rock solid as the 3rd Gen Glock 19's I have.

Both are rock solid. It's really just a question of what fits your hand best. I love the crap out of my 19 and carry it every day.

In 1990 Agents in our sector were permitted to purchase their own semi-auto to carry in lieu of the Service Revolvers after they completed Semi-Automatic Transition Training (SATT). The majority purchased Glock 17's and 19's. SATT was two days long with about 500 rounds being fired. Both digested the standard 115 grain 9mm fine, but the 19's choked badly on the duty load which was a +P+ 9mm 115 grain at ~1300 f/s which was required for qualification.
We couldn't figure out why, but all stoppages were failure to lock into battery. The NRA took some high speed photos of the 19 firing +P+ 9mm and found that the weapon did indeed lock into battery, but then bounced out. All the 19's were sent to Glock and returned in short order. After that there were no problems with the +P+.
It's also good to hear since the only sight I can now use with these older eyes is the Novak Ghost, which isn’t available for revolvers, and if I am to continue qualifying annually under Title 18 USC 926c I’ll need to be able to see the sights.

I have yet to experience a failure in either of my 9mm Glocks after thousands of rounds. If I ever experience one, you folks will be the first to hear about it.
