Glock 36? Enlighten Me

It’s pretty close to a Glock 30 and a 30 (or Glock 19, same dimensions mostly) with the extended mag is really close to an officer frame 1911. It’ll be lighter than an aluminum by probably 4 oz or so.

I find the Glock a little harder to conceal compared to a similar size thinner 1911 but like any of the Glocks over a similar size .45 aluminum frame 1911, in terms of recoil and shooting quickly.

OP could look at a HK45c for a little more cost. Very nearly the same grip size, a little less blocky for concealment but it does have a slightly longer barrel. 8 in the short mag, 10 in the extended (but you do pay a mint for those mags, if you can find them)
Thank you sir...

EXACTLY.

How about-

G36 II-4.25" barrel, eight round single stack.
G36X 3.78" barrel, eight round single stack.

What I’d like, mostly for the 29 or 30 but I could see a 8 round slim grip being nice too (like the Glock 38 but in proper .45 ACP) is that standard G19 grip length, not the hybrid they offer.

I suppose it’s worth noting that on the 30, and presumably the 36, I do get a good deal of pinch on my pinky under recoil, between the frame and magazine. Some of the replacement baseplates help alleviate that, but it is an annoyance at the range unless I used fairly weak ammo.

Owned one for about a week. Was one of the better glocks I have ever shot, but the more I shot it the less I wanted to keep it. Not real sure why i didn’t figure this out before owning it, but it was pretty big for being so small. Fat stubby grip, extra wide, was about like carrying a chunk of 2x4.

The factory mag bottom on the 36 is a pinky pinching somofabitch. The Pearce +0 extension and the Hyve +1 extensions eliminate that problem completely.

I would like to thank everyone for their responses. Both for and against!

I will keep my eyes open for a G36 just to handle one. Who knows, I may want to give one a try. The thinner grip was its primary appeal.
Currently I have more handguns on the wish list than $$$ or room for :(
Next Glock will probably be a Glock 42.
Followed by a M&P 340 , and a Kimber or Springfield 1911- I have felt way under dressed at this summers BBQs :D

My Glock 30 mags also pinched my pinky finger.

Side note, I have my Glock 21 in my pickup with the goal of trading it on a Glock 20 10mm. It's been in there a couple weeks now.

IMO that is too big of a gun for 6 rounds of ammo capacity. If I wanted a Glock that size I'd be looking at the G48 with 10 round 9mm mags. 45 doesn't offer a single advantage over 9mm.

G48 | GLOCK 48 | New Slimline

If it had to be a 45 I'd look at the Smith M&P Compact in 45. It is a tiny bit longer than the G30 but they do a better job of making the grip work with 10 round magazines. They offer versions with, and without a 1911 style safety. IMO for non-LE carry having a safety is an advantage and if you don't want it either don't use it, or buy one without it.

Having the ability to buy 14 round spare magazines is a plus. I wouldn't carry it with those, but for spares or HD use 14 rounds trumps 6.

I fell on the side of the g30. G36 is ok but since it doesn't have mag commonality with anything else and it's not small I had to pass. The little mag extension thing is a dislike for me too. I use 9 rd mags in my g30 because they're flat bottom and supposed to be flush with the frame (they almost are). That makes 9+1 , conceals well and shoots just like a g21. 13rd g21 mags work fine in the g30 for reload and there are other guns including carbines that take the double stack .45 auto glock mags, no such luck for g36. Less common pistol too, less aftermarket support if you like that sort of thing.
Honesly, please no one laugh- I can not think of a better carry gun than the g30, if you're looking for a compact 45 for real use it takes the cake easily .

I've shot the g36 a few times and it's fine, accurate and dependable but it's not much thinner , still feels like more than a compact should. I'd get one for sure if I hit the lotto, otherwise I'll pass.

Good luck

Interesting thread, informative replies. I have been contemplating the same thing so I’m learning too.

Anyone have a side by side shot of the grip with a 1911? Curious how the 36 would measure up to say a single stack Commander? (Dimensionally not weight obviously).

It's the weekend, so I'm back home. I only have a full size 1911, but you can get an idea of grip width of a G36. If you install thinner grips on the 1911, it will probably get down to G36 width.
