I've been out of the shooting sports for awhile but am now looking for a 19, or 26.

Having read about the problems the Gen4 17 and 19 are having, do these issues extend to the 26? Or, if I want a 19 sized package, am I better switching to the 23?

The problems that glock were havin was with the spring. I guess its the recoil spring. Glock now uses a duel spring, its two different sizes on the one spring. This spring has always been in the glock 26, even before glock had problems. I bought a gen 3 glock 19 and im happy with it. There was a wait on the gen 4.

Go on you tube and check out "hickok45" i think that how you spell it. That guy has a ton of glock and ruger info. Check it out you wont be dissapointed

All newer Glocks regardless of Generation have the "new" extractors. They look like they're made by MIM or some really cheap form of casting. The 9mm and .40 may have problems with the extractor. If you have problems, polish the extractor and try it again or buy a LoneWolf Distributors 9mm LCI extractor(they're on backorder for good reason). For .40 the LoneWolf extractor may not help, it actually made ejection worse in my Gen3 G27.

The new extractors are really soft metal too, some people report going around 2000 rounds with no problems then ejection becomes erratic, they replace the extractor and it's back to normal.

no, the probs do not extend to the gen4 26. they have the same exact upper assembly as the gen3's.
mine's sweet:

The Gen 4 is killing Glock's reputation.

not really. the gen4's are selling like hotcakes. the only models with issues are the gen4 17/19's. i would steer clear of those two until it's been proven they work right.

One of the problems with the gen 4 17 & 19's is that they were putting the same springs in for both 9 mm and .40. Some people also complained about the dual spring system. The 26 and 27 have always had dual springs and I have not heard about the gen 4 26's having issues like the 17 & 19.

My Gen 4 G19 has been perfect over 600 rounds of Russian TulAmmo. I wouldn't worry about about either the 26 or 19.

Shoot, they are on their fourth iteration of the spring... not sure if that'll solve anything. The extractor bit is more worrisome though.

While I don't intend to discredit other posters, the people who don't have issues with their Gen4 19s, for the most part aren't talking about how great it's been for them (you'll find a few), but the bad experiences sure are talking quite a bit... so make sure you calculate your risk accordingly.

The sad thing is that with the Glock... you used to not need to calculate that very much at all.

Good luck, welcome back to shooting.

And there lies the puzzle. How do you improve a Glock, an Icon, and have it still be a Glock?

Gen 3's aren't going to sell forever. I like the Gen 4 texture and the fatter grip option. It's only a matter of time until companies like Magpul or Troy start making aftermarket backstraps for them.

Hopefully Glock will bring a plant to the US and design a smooth trigger that has the drop safety on the inside somehow, like a FN bullpup rifle. That would be a nice improvement.

I avoided the problems and crappy new finish by putting my G3 27 upper on my G4 27 frame. Good finish, good extractor, nice frame. Works like a champ. Did the same with 36 upper on 30SF frame. To get true Glock Perfection you must spend $1,000 - $1,100. Not really but the older G3's are the best. Look around and you can find them NIB still.

Springfield's XD(no M) are still selling like hotcakes

xd sales have slowed considerably. i asked my buddy who owns a high volume gunshop (the placed is slammed with customers constantly).

xd's are still selling of course, but not like when they first came out under the SA brand name and people thought they were these amazing glock killers lol

GEN3 Glock's are the Colt SAA of our time.

Glock or a clone company will still be selling them 150 years from now.
