A while back I assembled an 80% G17 and while the finished product works fine I felt that I could do a better job drilling another frame...so I'm making another stab at it. The drilling went much better now that I changed my ways a bit: bushed the small holes with plastic tubing (from oil pressure gauge...fit just right) and pilot drilled with 1/16" bit then enlarged to final size.
The plastic drill guide fixture is too soft to prevent the bit from digging in a little on the side when drilling into the curved frame surface so I also knocked the side flutes off of the bits and they did drill nice straight holes this time.
Anyhow...to the question: I'm using Swenson slides and barrels from Midway and the first slide/barrel fit TIGHT....so tight that it almost took pressure to fit into lockup. This took a little break-in but now locks up well and the fitment is almost like a custom target type gun...very nice! But...the second slide has a wee bit-o-play with barrel in slide engaged in lockup. I have tried all three barrels on hand and all fit the same...so it's in the slide, but the wiggle is only about .002-.003" as near as I can measure it.
What I'm wondering is what does Glock use for their Go-NoGo specs regarding hood clearance in the slide? I don't think the small amount of clearance in the second slide is going to be an issue and might actually enhance the functionality should it get into dirt, just wondering how loose is too loose? Thanks guys.
