Glock or AR equivalent of equipment for Ham radio

I'd like to get a Ham radio in addition to the other stuff I keep around for a natural disaster. Don't want to spend a lot of time with it other than to become familiar with it. I assume I will need a license. Can you please give me an example of what equipment would be equivalent of what a Glock or AR is to firearms. Many thanks.

This is contradictory.

The AR radio would be a fancy, expensive radio with lots of pointless gadgets, that probably won't function reliably without regular cleaning. Also it would shoot .224" diameter rounds designed for varmint hunting that others would have you believe are laser death rays.

The Glock radio would be a reliable radio that isn't pretty, but will work for you no matter how much you abuse it or drop it in the mud. And you're welcome to clean it off, but you don't HAVE to for it to work properly.

Just thought I'd clear that up. So what type of radio do you want again?
