Here are 2 1911s. A commander size and a government size. When these are complete almost all the parts will be interchangeable.

So, you’re going to purposely make the parts interchangeable?

I don’t get it. (Its your guns, so I guess I don’t have to.) If I was building a pair of 1911’s I would want them to be the best that they could be. I would want the triggers to match each other. I would want extraction to match each other. I would want them to match in function first and form second. I don’t believe that would be possible without some fitting.

After you get them done, please open up this thread and let us know how they came out, and how little fitting they needed. I for one would be very interested.

Staying with the spirit of this thread....
I am purposely getting the same frame parts for each gun. The object is for them to function the same and have readily available parts should they be needed. Most will be drop in and some will need fitting, just like Glock parts.

I will likely be building a railed (hopefully) 1911 in the next couple years. Where did you get the slide and frame? I like the look of those.

No, because they purposely ship w/ lighter springs - for light target loads - that also work for ball.

But the ball ammo recoil spring weight is 18.5#.

I was, and still am, under the impression that the standard recoil spring rate for a 1911 is 16 Lbs.
And even if I am not correct (it happens) I still believe adjusting spring rates qualifies as “tuning”.
