Going to the Trap Field

1st time in 3 years, wish me luck!

Got a Walmart bulk box of 7 1/2’s a oiled up A400 Excel!

trying to keep it around at 23 out of 25!

Been a bit! Photos Soon!

I think 92% is doing very well after a long layoff.
I always had to stay in practice, my spring training was pretty sad until I built back up to my normal B class scores. I was envious of the guy who could come out of hibernation and resume shooting his average right away.

15 on the 1st round… I am out of practice!!!

22 on the 2nd round … my shoulder hurts and it started raining

I’m going to do more dry practice before I come back next week.

BTW: I shoot very low ready. stock near my mid-section then mount. Only way I know how to shoot shotgun. Hunting style

Yeah shotgun shells have doubled or tripled the past few years.
bet hand loading is not much cheaper. I forget how expensive it was to shoot traps. But my club only charges $6 a rounds, that didn’t change much

I been stuck on 23 / 24 for as long as I can remember. Did hit perfect once on a wobber trap, don’t know the proper name,

This year, I might try shooting mounted! New Year, New Style

Trivia Alert
There is a series of Traditional English Murder Mysteries in which the lead detective's day job is antique dealer. He once opined of a dueling pistol that "case hardening is an effect caused by long storage in a closed case."

I forgot how shoot gun shooters have the strangest humor!

Well I’ll be. They actually found a way to make Xtra wood look worse. No offense Mark. I’m sure it’s a shooter. I hate that fake tiger striping though. To me it looks like they turned loose their kids with a magic marker. I wish they’d just leave the walnut alone and let it be what it is.

We call that… Period Correct! 😂

I fell for it.. and will own it!

If you have a Dunhams sporting goods anywhere nearby they have been running sales on Remington Gun Club and Federal target shells, flat of 250 for $89.99. 12 or 20 gauge.
that’s GREAT price ! I remember Cabelas has Estate shells for around that price once

That shotgun is so gawdawful puggfugly, I kind of want one now! My CZ 612 trap has beautiful wood, and a clunky cast metal action with a finish that resembles proper blueing. It's consistently the ugliest gun in the rack...and I've been told as much. I just smile and wait for the scorecard to tell a story. I kind of wish it was blue like yours!

Nice shooting for being rusty. I envy your $6 rounds of trap. Enjoy them while you can, that barely covers the cost of clays these days even at bulk pricing. Shop around, you'll find cheaper ammo. $9-10 for 25 is the basic bulk price these days, and I've seen sales as low as $8. You are absolutely correct on trapshooters having an odd sense of humor. The good ones do anyways, they laugh off minor adversities. The bad ones need everything perfect and uniform, and any disruption of their routine is grounds for a temper tantrum. Todays handicap stage was a prime example. A quartering tailwind came up, and the rights were WAY out of bounds. Sporting clays dying quail out of bounds! Partially melted snow on freshly graded gravel added a layer of difficulty, even the straights were hard to pick up as they were flying extremely low and flat. 2 guys were grousing at the trap boy, just about taking their ball and going home. Ruined their whole day over a jackpot shoot with $30 on the line they weren't even in the running for. The rest of us were having a great time almost tipping over with the hard follow throughs and holy #$%^ts.

It’s UGLY 4 sure, and yes, I thought that was real wood when I bought it. My desire for pretty shotguns as man jewelry is over. I don’t care if it looks like a rusty pipe on a AR stock, as long as it fits and mount without binding.

I use to take my Walmart 870 Express with tang top to the field, and shoot next to the Italian boys, they always look me up and down like a trailer class (i’m perfectly ok with that!! I’m from Rockingham and I don’t give a Darn) anyway, they stop busting on me, when I’m shooting 23 & 24 with a gun that cost less than there shell belt.

I love shooting Clay Birds!

My Club is Renton Fish & Game, 2 American trap, 1 Wobbler trap, 1 Olympic Continental trap, and a Skeet … Wonder place to shoot. I have not been back in 3 years and the demographic has changed, very young people working there and shooting.!

If I could get 15 out of 25 after 3 years of not shooting, I'd hope for a medal for luckiest shooter. 23 out of 25 is Olympic contender status for me
I’m thinking about a SXS! something Mike Yardley (my hero) would approve
That's all I ever shoot with. The over/under guys look at me like I'm Jed Clampett on holiday. I grin and turn my gun sideways and tell them, "I'm with ya". Just wait for their expressions when you bring a SxS with rabbit ears.

These are the two I shoot with, a 50 year old Savage Fox B and a CZ Hammer Classic, both 12 gauge. CZ has screw in chokes, cyl/imp. cyl. The Fox B is mod/full fixed chokes. Both have 30" barrels.

Ugly and cheap can shoot just as well as beautiful and expensive. It's all up to the loose nut behind the trigger.
