yes. From a 686-4", five shots averaged 1014 fps. Those were shot in October 2007, and a bigger ES was noted; I haven't transcribed the range notes. FWIW, that average drops nicely under the nominal 1050 fps max velocity Speer recommends for this bullet.

b. S&W mod 66, 2.5 inch- 1108 fps (341 ft. lbs.)
c. Ruger SP101, 3 inch- 1180 fps (386 ft. lbs.)
d. S&W Mt. Gun, 4 inch- 1258 fps (439 ft. lbs.)
Which looks like mid range .357 velocities from a 4" barrel! I'm just concerned that the "low velocity expansion" hollow point will explode when it hits something because it's moving too fast. What do you think?
I would not worry about that with a quality Speer Gold Dot with a delta V of only about 125fps vs. a 2.5" gun. It's just not enough difference to cause worry. Out of a Carbine or something, I might wonder about it.
Actually, Speer has (or had) the same concern that RatDrall has. The Speer white paper for their "short barrel" GD bullet established a nominal range of 860-1050 fps. Beyond that, the bullet is / was liable to fragment. That was for the original 135-gr. I have a pdf copy of the white paper on that; if you want a copy, e-mail me.
However, IIRC, Speer 'redesigned' their GDHB bullets last year to drop the minimal velocity required--anyone have a link to that info? I think they now claim it will at least start to expand below 800 fps. And, I do not recall if they have tweaked their specs for the different bullet weights....
