My happy christmas/b-day gift to myself is going to be a Chiappa little badger. Been wanting pack/trunk gun and I like the way that little gun fits me(which is suprising, since I am decidedly not little). My local gun shop has 2 of them. A .22lr and a .22wmr, so I am kinda torn. On one hand, I know that the .22lr would bring more versatility to the table, with the option of shooting CBs, shorts, and longs as well as long rifle, and ammo is(or at least is starting to get back to being) cheaper/easier to find. On the other hand, the wmr would bring more range and power to the table, with enough punch that in a pinch(sort of the situation that a gun like this is made for, IMO) it would be a bit better on larger game than it's little brother, while still not being too much for the smaller stuff. I do have a .22wmr already, but for that matter, I have a .22lr already too so I was wondering what you guys thought I should get.

Less ear-ball damage with the 22LR. I think these are very cool little pack rifles, be sure to post a review

If you want a plinking/paper punching gun with the ability to take rabbit/squirrels the .22lr is the one. If you want a truck gun able to take anything from rabbits to coyotes the .22 Mag is for you.

Have you considered a Marlin Papoose? If you're thinking of a survival type gun, a stainless/plastic take down with a 10 shot magazine might be something to look at.

vincyr, you should get one just so that if someone breaks into your house youd have an excuse to look at your wife, and in an arnold schwarzenegger accent say "run! get the chiappa".. sorry, i couldnt resist

If that was the plan, I think this one would be the way to go

... I'll be back...

A real Terminator would use the Chiappa Triple Threat --just sayin' ;)

Well, I ended up opting for the .22 lr . I put it on layaway last night, and I am going to pick it up next payday. I'll do a review once I get it home.

My only beef with the rifle as a pack gun is that they designed the lower rails (really, rail-s? :scrutiny:), trigger guard, and stock in such a way you can't lock the barrel to the stock for compact but easily-deployable storage. I can't seem to tell, but I assume it simply breaks in two like any other break-action gun, right? That's almost as good, but still makes dropping a piece possible when deploying the gun (a small concern, but a concern nonetheless).

Not sure I follow. The gun stays together when folded. It can be taken apart into two components by removing the hinge screw, but unless you do that, there's no parts to drop. You just take the folded rifle out of the pack, pop a round in the chamber, unfold/close it and you're GTG

There is a pretty good photo sequence that illustrates this on this page

I've been contemplating replacing that hinge screw with something I can do by hand, to get the little thing into a more compact package.
Has anyone done that? How compact is it really when folded? It looks awkward at the angle shown above, and the triangle case looks goofy to me.

I really should just order one, the price is almost negligible, but they're not in stock at the places I've used in the past. (yes, I'm too lazy to deal with yet another online gun dealer to get my local FFL on file, I know)

Maybe I'll go bother my favorite ordering stuff LGS on the way home.

HELP! I just bought a Chiappa .22 mag little badger and I cannot get off of safety. It is completely locked up. It says in the manual that it locks automatically. on safety but I can't get it to unlock!

You might want to start that as a separate, new thread. Asking the question, an older thread that is not really related, you're not likely to get a ton of answers.

Oh! I am sorry. I am not the most experienced person on communicating on these forums. My mistake! Anyway my problem was solved by the guy at the gun store where I bought the Little Badger. He figured out the way to open it. Thanks for your help, I will remember this next time.
