A co-worker of mine just bought a Kimber .45. It came with one magazine. I am not a 1911 guy (not by choice though) and I want to recommend some top notch aftermarket magazines to him.

He said Kimber sold some for about $35 each. Can anybody recommend top-notch aftermarked 1911 .45 magazines?

Thanks.

Chip McCormick PowerMags.

Others will chime-in about Wilson 47D mags, but my gunsmiths have warned about weak springs and weak feed lips.

Check-Mate....Wilson....Kimber Pro-Tac....Chip McCormick....Colt of course...

+1 on CMC power mags. Get them at Midway when on sale. The 10 rounders are excellent for range work.....

Another one to consider is ACT mag. You can usually find them fairly inexpensive. $18 or so. Just Google search for them. Several mfgs are using them as stock.

I would suggest Wilson Combat, then maybe Wilson Combat, and of course you can't forget about Wilson Combat.

Seriously, I got some of these for one of my 1911's and it took care of the feeding problems it was having. They load nice as well.

I use two (2) manufacturers of standard 7 round magazines: MEC-GAR (MGCG4507N Colt 1911 45 ACP 7rd NICKEL ) and COLT (only those with the proper markings). The nickel MEC-GAR mags are for carry and spares and the COLT blued mags are for range work.

haha, Nobody has mentioned Tripp magazines yet. I used to use Wilson. The Tripps come with polished feed lips and hold the top round a little higher so it hits the barrel ramp better.

I've never seen a website that describes everylittle detail of thier product as well as Trippresearch. Good stuff.

Personally, I was a little wary of the Wilson mags at first because I just can't stand products with a fanboy following. (not directed at anyone in this thread)

However, I bought two ETMs and they work very well. The're what I carry if it's not too hot outside.

Another one to consider is ACT mag. You can usually find them fairly inexpensive. $18 or so. Just Google search for them. Several mfgs are using them as stock.
I also bought two ACT mags that simply would not work in my Kimber. Every magazine had some kind of failure.
I got rid of those magazines and replaced them with Mec Gar mags, which also work great.

So, I recommend Wilson, Mec Gar, and the Kimber mag that came with mine. The ACT mags were just a pain. (shoulda kept one for failure clearing drills... DOH'

Uh....too....many....opinions.

I wish this was simple. Now I have to go buy like 3 different magazines to see what I like. Going with:
Wilson ETM, Cobramag(Tripp), and Mec-Gar

Never had a single problem with Tripp mags in any of my 1911's from bottom end to top end models but as has been said there are other quality 1911 mags. Tripp and wife are great to deal with and ship fast.

colt mags mags have never failed me, I can't say that about wilson.

I've got 5 Wilson Combat ETM mags, no problems,
they work well. - used in S&W 1911 5" Stainless

I'd like to get a couple of Chip McCormick
that fit flush for CCW.
