I am looking for input in regards to a solid performing bullet for Elk and Boar. I have read that the old FAIL-SAFE was good and I have a chance to buy some old stock. I would like to keep in the 150 grain range. Although the FAIL-SAFE are in 140's, I have been told it works well. Any thoughts on other factory loads for the game I have listed would be great.
Thanks.

Fail safes may be not be frangeable enough. They are certainly sturdy construction but the trade off is less expansion. They are known to blow clean through leaving a tiny exit hole.

IMHO the best bullets for your application are Nosler Partitions. The nose will expand reliably across a large range of velocities and the tail portion provides reliable penetration. None better for elk or boar. I'd feel safe using 130,140,150grainers whichever shoots best out of your rifle.

Winchesters xp3 would fit the bill you can research them on wins site. I have used them and fond them to work extreamly well

For elk and pig species go with Barnes MRX 150 grain or Barnes triple shock x

My Rem 700 in 270Win shoots extremely well with 130g bullets. Not bad with 140g but not as well as 130, not really so good at all with 150g. Your rifle may have it's own preference. Probably best to keep the rifle happy with the bullet weight it likes. Shoot 40 or 50 premium bullets in each weight to find out.

All the premium big-game bullets will kill an elk or a boar. Pick the brand you like: Rem, Win, Nosler, Barnes, Swift, Speer, Hornady, Sierra, etc etc. Then work up your best load.

Happy hunting.

I really like the Barnes TSX 130gr. Expands great and penetrates too. I've been shooting the Black Hills Gold and am extremely pleased with it.
