[strike]OP, you didn't say if it was a Police or Police Magnum. I think there is a difference in price if I'm not mistaken.[/strike]

Nevermind... Not too sure if there's a Police 870 that's not a magnum

The first 870 Police shotguns (And 870 Riot guns too) came out not long after the sporting version of the 870 was introduced. The Police guns had 18 1/8" barrels, the Riot guns had 20" barrels. They were marked Wingmaster on the receiver and were chambered for 2 3/4" shells.

Far as I know there is no 870 with a receiver stamped Police that is not a magnum, but the 870 Police pre-dates the magnum receiver.

Fred is as of course as always, correct. I will just add that all models marked Police, Express or Tactical are 3" receivers. Since the word "Magnum" refers to the ammunition I don't use the term magnum receiver. When I started my career our weapons were 2.75" Wingmaster versions and our departmental load was 2.75" magnum 12 pellet 00 buck (I still use it). So you can fire 2.75magnum loads in any 870. I guess the word magnum is more of a marketing word when it comes to shotguns then an indication of any thing else. With that said there are still a lot of people that think the receiver is an indication of a shotgun being capable of firing magnum loads when it is the ability of the receiver to eject a certain length of shell and what the barrel is chambered for that matters.

OK - suffix M receiver :D

And I wish I was always correct. But then I'd probably be insufferable, and I'm bad enough as it is :D.
