Good deal on a Sig?

The one pictured there is a milled slide 229. There were never any stamped 229's.

There were also never any stamped slide .40 or .357 pistols made. The milled slides and beefed up frames were introduced to increase durability for those two cartridges. The 9mms were converted to milled slides as well, to simplify production logistics I would imagine.

The compact stamped slide version (in 9mm) would be the P228. Go handle a P228 with your P229 and compare their pointability and balance.

Here is my German P226 with a stamped slide and internal extractor.

You just gotta hold some of them and see for yourself. You might end up liking it

so where would a good place to find CPO'd Sigs be? (p228 in particular) I've seen them on the autcion sites (GB and GA). I haven't seen many online stores that have them. Where should I check?

You probably either want to check with your dealer or call Sig directly and ask. I believe they are sold by Sig through the same channels as their NIB distribution. You might also want to check with Ordnance Outsellers. They sell a ton of SIGs. I bought my 2022 and 228 through them.
