Delta in Knoxville and Bosto (yep, LOGAN) made no stink about handguns being declared and checked through on a recent trip. The TYS agent made a mistake and put the tag on the outside of the bag and the TSA folks at Logan "had" to search the entire bag instead of just verifying the weapons were unloaded, but the declaration went smoothly on both ends.

I transport my guns on the airlines frequently, have never had a serious problem. The only hiccup I had was when I was transporting an empty gun case; the agent said since it was empty I could just go to the gate (no need to escort it to TSA screeners). Wrong! Got a call on the PA a few minutes later to come back to the front and open it for TSA (even though they had X-rayed it!).

Now no matter what, I always escort my bags to TSA personally and smile, offer help, keys, whatever they need if they want to search the bag. It has always gone smoothly when I do that. Most TSA people are cool and say "Yeah I have a few too, I'm an NRA member, etc."

It's good to hear good stories instead of the bad ones you usually hear. I've never flown with a firearm before, but a couple of weeks ago I had my carryon luggage searched. The guy opened it up and found saw a stack gun catalogs and magazines, and we started talking. He sounded like he could have been a High Roader.
