Good Metering 9MM Powder?

If you want to see 700x metering better, go to 800x for awhile and you will think 700x is like sugar.

seriously though, I have had really good luck with bullseye.

I have loaded some Acc #2 and Acc #5 and both are very small grains. I load 9mm on a Lee Turret and when I use fine grained powder I end up with powder spilled all over the tool head. I now use Universal Clays....it has larger grains and meters the best for me...at least for the Lee charging die that I am using.

Thanks for the suggestions. What types of powders are those you guys listed? I have a standard Lee powder measure and don't want to leak powder everywhere when throwing charges. It also needs to be appropriate for cast, plated and jacketed for plinking.

I have a standard Lee powder measure
Well, there's your problem.

By a name brand steel drum powder measure (RCBS, Redding, Hornady, etc.) and all your leaks, crunching, and metering problems with any powder will be gone.

Wish I could afford a new one! At this point I'm darned thankful for the one I've got. Shooting and reloading is definitely a luxury item around here.

TenDriver -
W231 meters perfectly fine, without leakage, in my old-style (round) Lee PPM.

231/hp38, Universal, Titegroup, Accurate 2,5,&7, Lots of others. As a rule you would try to avoid shotgun powders most of which don't measure well: 700x, 800x, red dot, green dot, blue dot etc...
I was given some Vihavitori 320. Measured very well and probably the cleanest burning powder I have ever used. Its expensive though! But in the gunstores its usually the one brand on the shelf. I won't buy it at $45/pound.

Sweet jesus, after a half year of measuring and weighing each load of 800x load by hand for 9mm, I'm singing the praises high for titegroup. As long as you have a solid technique for every case on the Lee PPM you can get VERY consistent. Loves me some titegroup, save your skrill, versatile powder, and load all day without scoopers.
Just be careful, I measure the first and last 10 charges it throws for consistency, titegroup is a powder to be respected, and load manuals are to be obeyed.
Edit: Forgot to mention, just in case you are loading lead boolits, it can be a bit smokey, not to worry if you're outside. You may get some looks at an indoor range.

Have fun and be safe

As I stated, TiteGroup is excellent for plated or jacketed bullets, but it burns too hot for cast. My local bulletcaster recommends WST for soft shooting, low smoke cast loads.

Titegroup, AutoComp, WST, and 700X.

They all meter good in a Dillon 650.

The 700x at 3.5grains almost fills the brass. Can be tough to meter.

The other three FLOW like oiled graphite!

Sounds like a metering glich for you!

be safe.

I dont see how people describe 231 as a fine ball powder. Go buy some AA#2 or AA#5 for your 9mm, thats fine ball powder. I can promise you that will meter perfectly from any powder measure. My lee Auto Disk dispenses it to .1gr accuracy every single time.

I seem to remember it being called a "crushed ball powder" Not a ball powder and not a flake powder either. But it does measure well and my powder measure will go down to 3.2gr. Titegroup is more dense and the minimum it will drop is 3.5. I'm not sure I could use AA 2 because its so dense. I also use the Lee powder disc measure.

W231 is a ball powder and somewhere along the way it became a flattened ball powder.

With the Lee Auto Disk spherical powders work best. In the 9mm I use a lot of W231/HP-38. If you can't find that AA#5 is also a good choice. For "hotter loads" or with heavy bullets you can use HS-6 or Longshot. (all spherical powders)

I use HP38 and Power Pistol with my Lee auto disc. Both stay within 0.1gr without any problem.

I use HP38 and Power Pistol

+1

I use Win231 as light target loads 4.6 grains with 115 fmj, and PowerPistol for full power target loads 6.4 grains with same bullet. Both shoot excellent and meter so good that I have no reason to change. I can't find any W-231 lately, so I only load PP to conserve 231 for wife's .38 spl target loads. I have used BlueDot with good results, it meters quite well too. Bullseye will work but I haven't tried it yet, I keep that for .45 auto only. I haven't used Titegroup for 9mm but it will meter well.

W-231, N320, True Blue, Silhouette, AA #5, AA #7, WSF, N330, N340, Power Pistol, Longshot, HS-6, etc.
