I have been shooting a 22 for a couple of years and a .243 for a year now(thats why I said I don't want a 22 or .243.) I just have never really got into the technical stuff and buying gear for it since the guns were given to me with scopes and everything else so I haven't had to. There is an 800 yard range about five minutes from my house. Cost of rounds isnt a big factor because of reloading.
