Good Scope for Savage Axis 30-06

I think this thread belongs in the 'rifles' forum.

For hunting purposes, I would recommend a Nikon buckmaster (buckmaster is better than prostaff, but not as good as monarch). I think Nikon makes fantastic scopes for the money. I got a 4.5-14 buckmaster for about $300 new (on ebay). I'm sure for hunting purposes (and much, much more) you wouldnt be dissapointed unless you are accustomed to $1000 optics.

Yea, I just joined this site today and was not positive about new thread posting. Thanks for the replies. That buckmaster is not to pricey and has a lifetime warranty so i will consider it. I also got a Daniel Defense M4 V5 LW recently and am not sure what kind of optic I want to put on it. I am thinking about the eotech 512 or an aimpoint.

I would recommend a Vortex... I have a Vortex Viper on one of my rifles and would love to equip all my rifles with one of their scopes. Good luck... BTW I am just on the other side of Kinston from you...

I have the Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40SF scope mounted on a Savage Axis in .223. Both work very well, the rifle is accurate and the scope is very clear with consistent adjustments.

I have no problems at all with the scope, and only problem I have with the rifle is the somewhat heavy trigger pull, which I plan to rectify soon. The finish is nothing to write home about, but it is good enough for a working rifle.

Yea, my buddy owns the Savage Axis 308 and it seems like for the money ($277) you can't beat it. I see Ruger has come out with something similar but I think I will stick with the Savage.

SWFA, Vortex, Nikon, Leupold... all good.

I'll go Nikon every time, just because all mine have worked well for me.

That Millett is what I have on my .308 target rifle, and I would never put it on a hunting rifle. It is big and it is bulky.

I would recommend a Leupold or Nikon 3-9x40

Seems like the Nikon is a pretty solid choice and won't break the bank. For the shooting and hunting I will be doing I won't need anything more than 4.5-14 either.

I can vouch for the Buckmaster 4.5-14x... Great scope for the money, and the BDC reticule is great. Second only to the Mil-Dot.
