I agree in having one great option I'm excited about instead of two I'm not. It's a hobby for most afterall. That said, I imagine expectations will be rather high here. I hope it works out and it seems a good start.
It kinda went like this: I had 0 ARs and didn't really like them as I was more a M-14 (M1A1) type 7.62x51 kind of guy. But, I decided I should test out the waters and after great deliberation decided that the 16" 1 in 9 twist bull barrel would be handy for shooting varmints. It shot well but I was getting more cases stuck than I cared to deal with, even running fairly wet. Plus that 16" bull barrel is HEAVY for a tote-around type of gun. Great if you're at the bench or stationary. Then I got into the 24" fluted - which I ended up preferring as it had a sweet target trigger, seemed to function more reliably wet or dry, and seemed lighter than the 16" bull barrel. So between the 2, I leaned toward the BM 24" over the Sweet 16 and decided to trade off the short and heavy for something lighter and handier. Meanwhile, I picked up a dedicated .22LR M-4 profile upper that was more fun to shoot than either the 16" boat anchor or 24"! Lighter, handier, kills gophers just as dead, just not as big of a bang. Which led me to pick up a M&P15-22 for the wife...
Looked ad nausium from Armalite, BM, Black Rain Ordinance, Colt, DPMS, HK, LWCS, Noreen Bad News, Noveske, PSA, Rock River, Ruger, S&W, Sig, Windham - the entire gamut. Decided I was basically looking for a lighter package, perhaps something for 3-gun, more of a tote-around type carbine. I
think I got it. Colt name and LE rollings certainly don't
hurt the value either, should I decide on something better/else/different on down the road at some point.
