Did something today I never would have dreamed of in my younger days - traded in 2 ARs for 1. I've been trying to fall in love with an AR for years and it hasn't happened but this Colt LE6920 might do it for me. Well see. At any rate, I'm thinking I'll enjoy the Colt more in the long run.

Wise or foolish move on my part? I'm old, I can take it.:)

For my needs I'd have kept the two others. But your needs are your own, and your own taste for that matter. As long as your happy, thats all that matters.

X 2

Amazing things can be done with smoke and mirrors...

I would be happier if it was a BCM . But again , cant say anything bad with Colt . I only have a Colt Series 80 1911 and has been great. I just like BCM or Spikes Tactical if milspec we are talking.

A two-for-one trade is a hard one to swallow... but it might be worth it in this case, who knows.

Do let us know on down the road what your feelings are towards this trade, retrospect being 20/20 and all.

For what it's worth, I've only heard good things about the LE6920 from my recent research and I'd done quite a bit over the past couple months (I'm building my first AR now).

You probably should have kept the two. Colt is definitely better but just because you spend more money on it doesn't make it a different platform. If you don't like ar's then price isn't going to change that. Or sold them and bought a different platform.

Thank you gents. The DPMS Sweet 16 shot great - however it was finicky about ammo with extraction issues intermittently and was heavy for a walk around type. The Bushmaster Varminter shot nice, seemed lighter than the Sweet 16 even with its 24" barrel.

I made $50 on the trade and have the Colt. Value-wise, it seems the LE marked Colt is worth even more. Appears properly staked too! While I don't have anything against DPMS or BM, I do not like having to use cleaning rods to remove stuck cases at all.

I dunno
For utility I would rather have one good gun than a bunch of cheap ones. But from a $ pov I kinda thought colts were goin closer to $1100 or so new. So I'd think I'd want a little cash to even up the deal but it depends entirely on condition I they were all used

I agree in having one great option I'm excited about instead of two I'm not. It's a hobby for most afterall. That said, I imagine expectations will be rather high here. I hope it works out and it seems a good start.

Depends on how you are using the rifles but without knowing that info...I will go with wise.

Similar to the previous post, except without knowing the use I would not think it so wise. Of course I don't consider a Bushmaster or DPMS as a POS, and I have never shot a Colt I was in love with. In fact I've only shot 3 Colts and found the accuracy mediocre (that means over 1 MOA) with an optic.

It kinda went like this: I had 0 ARs and didn't really like them as I was more a M-14 (M1A1) type 7.62x51 kind of guy. But, I decided I should test out the waters and after great deliberation decided that the 16" 1 in 9 twist bull barrel would be handy for shooting varmints. It shot well but I was getting more cases stuck than I cared to deal with, even running fairly wet. Plus that 16" bull barrel is HEAVY for a tote-around type of gun. Great if you're at the bench or stationary. Then I got into the 24" fluted - which I ended up preferring as it had a sweet target trigger, seemed to function more reliably wet or dry, and seemed lighter than the 16" bull barrel. So between the 2, I leaned toward the BM 24" over the Sweet 16 and decided to trade off the short and heavy for something lighter and handier. Meanwhile, I picked up a dedicated .22LR M-4 profile upper that was more fun to shoot than either the 16" boat anchor or 24"! Lighter, handier, kills gophers just as dead, just not as big of a bang. Which led me to pick up a M&P15-22 for the wife...

Looked ad nausium from Armalite, BM, Black Rain Ordinance, Colt, DPMS, HK, LWCS, Noreen Bad News, Noveske, PSA, Rock River, Ruger, S&W, Sig, Windham - the entire gamut. Decided I was basically looking for a lighter package, perhaps something for 3-gun, more of a tote-around type carbine. I think I got it. Colt name and LE rollings certainly don't hurt the value either, should I decide on something better/else/different on down the road at some point.

Do you run steel or brass cases?

Both. Ran 360 rounds through it today, one stuck steel case. Flawless other than that, running reasonably wet. Weight is more along the lines of what I have been looking for, hitting gong at 100 and 200 w/ open sights without effort, 100, 200, 300 all pretty good w/ scope and zeroing in on the 500. Not quite there yet as I was less than 40% at distance.

I know that steel cases in a tight .223 chamber (as on the Sweet 16) are best avoided, require frequent cleaning and may result in stuck cases.

Thanks again for all the input as I'm fairly certain after only one range session that my swap was a good one.

ironic.

i basically traded 1 colt for 2 bushmasters several years ago. i actuyally sold the colt when i got hard up for money, then when money was good again i bought the other two. i havent regretted it yet as im still waiting on my first malfunction from either of the two new ones. (now about 28000 rounds between them, give or take a thousand)

thats a fine looking setup you got there, and i wouldnt hesitate to do the exact same thing if these werent absolutely 100% reliable.....

I think Epic move!

I am no Guru on the platform or the brands. But I spent many a day on here and in literature trying to answer the question of which AR?

My plan in the beginning was a $3k AR build! But with THR input it will end up being a 4 6920 purchase, and we all buy the rail toys we want!

I got the LE6920 .... by fall of this year the total quantity of 6920's will be 4!

From general consensus...they come ready to run....and run they do!

Me and my 3 sons........:D.....We all like the AR bug!
