I friend of mine called me up today and wanted me to go to a few pawn shops with him cuz he needless some $. Needless to say i bought on of his guns. He had a brand new unfired 10/22 he won at work and didn't want it cuz he already has 5 of them. I ended up giving him $100 bucks for it. The only 10/22's i have ever played with were older...and i can not believe how much plastic is on this gun...i'm not to upset cuz i got a great deal on the thing...but jezz talk about making a classic cheap

Its a fairly decent rifle for $200. Your not going to have top of the line parts. If the had machined steel parts everyone would complain that the rifle costs to much.

I have an older one with the metal parts, will happily trade you for the cheaper but more precisely made plastic parts.

$100 for a unfired 10/22 sounds pretty good. This is the age of plastic and some of this plastic stuff is more durable than metal has ever been. It's all in how you look at it.

I like my 1970s model with Shooters Ridge bull barrel for tight groups. The new plastic ones I own are for plinking. Both have factory triggers and are quite a bit different in feel.

IMHO, going from coated (not anodized in over 40yrs) aluminum to high strength polymer is not a downgrade. We're talking about a $200 plinker that has not even increased in price over the last ten years enough to keep up with inflation, not a Winchester 52.

Mine has worked fine since I bought it, one Appleseed and about 15k rounds of abuse later.

Plastic is nice it doesn't rust or corrode.

The plastic trigger group is actually a step up over the cheap cast alumimum parts that were painted black.

I bought mine around 1969. It is a carbine model with a metal barrel band, metal butt plate, and a walnut carbine stock. Lots have changed since then. That said, I also have a newer one that looks and functions just fine.
