Got a problem here.

O.K. everyones pretty much got the serious side of this covered so lets go back to the one that really expressed our repressed thoughts;

The mental picture of bitch slappin' the guy around till he's just drooling and then saying," see son, if gramps was packin' I couldn't have gotten away with slapping him around like this".

Is hilarious!! OOPS! JUST WOKE UP WIFEY LAUGHING!!!

My Grandfather and Father always carried large sticks with them when the walked. More like walking sticks than canes. A walking stick is bigger and more substantile than a cane.

They lived in Washington State through the depression etc., hard times. They didn't fear man so much as mean dogs. The stick was used to ram into the the dog's mouth sideways and break their jaws effectively killing them.

My Granfather went to the Klondike to look for gold when he was young. He had a pistol but said he never had to brandish it. The fact that he was 6'6" and stoutly built probably stopped alot of clowns from jumping him. He never told me I should or shouldn't carry. Never really came up. He taught me to love guns however.

Temptation

Hello All.

Now, now, Terry and Jim, you shouldn't tempt me. I mean really, I can't actually pistol whip...I mean, take a baseball bat to...I mean, I can't drop kick...I mean, there now, see, you've gotten me all worked up!!:evil:

Seriously, though, I'm pretty much in agreement with most that my son can and will make up his own mind. With the taste for independent thought that I have tried to instill in him and his brother and sister, he's already getting used to quite a lot of the other students disagreeing with him. That really burns my cookies when I think about it: so many young minds, so much drivel being poured into them. This country has produced some of the finest ideas in the history of man, and they don't know ANYTHING about it. Gotta get started working on that.

Deadhand,
I am absolutely impressed with the well-written and intelligent responses to Mark's question! Proof that firearms enthusiasts are a cut above.
Most people don't think any further ahead than their next meal. Guns are a good way to learn to think, so is riding a motorcycle, piloting an airplane, climbing mountains, etc.

The "cut above" that you notice may simply be due to gun nuts having learned to think a bit deeper.... :)
