Got lucky today

Another day off today, Gunny? Looking forward to seeing what you might find to bring home today.
Thanks for all your posts. I always enjoy them and usually learn something as well.

Gunny, wait till American Pickers comes to take a look at what you’ve got. Nice finds looking forward to your post on the Mosin.
I would never let those guys in my house.
I am looking forward to seeing pictures of your guest bedroom. Mattress laid on top of ammo crates? How about a baby crib for your grandchildren made out of large gun crate? Stack of large ammo cans for use as a dresser? Dummy 50 caliber BMG round for use as a teething ring for when the grandchild starts cutting teeth?

Your cult members are looking forward to your inspiration.
I have two grandsons, 11 and 12 years old. Don’t see any more in the near future.
Not I’m going to put a bed in the room, but I do have a Military folding cot.

I don’t think I’ll go gun hunting today. I’m having new windows installed next week and will be writing a check for them.

win win day right there. all the shop by me are closed on mondays, all of them. one thing i missed about when i lived in alabama for 2 year, was the pawn shops. the one's here in ny seem to put 2x the top book value, they must just hope for people that don't know the real value.
When we have something come out for sale we try to find completed auctions of the same item, gun or otherwise, as that gives us some kind of clue what the market is on a given item. Someone, somewhere validated the price by laying down their money for it. If it hangs around for awhile I'll certainly entertain offers and if it hangs around longer I don't have a problem lowering the asking price. Personally, I'd love having nothing out for sale that came out of pawn in so far as I'd love every pawn to be redeemed or paid on and then redeemed. Better for the cash flow. That just ain't a gonna happen, though.

I don’t have a gun problem. I have a storage problem. But I’m working on it.
My oldest son moved out in December and I plan to turn his old bedroom into a gun room. That will give me a lot of room for a large gun safe and a bench.

Space to do what we want to do and the time to do it are all severely lacking.

What reason would I have for making them if others didn’t enjoy them. Thank you and others that make posting here fun.
Gunny, please excuse me for not liking more of your posts. Understand, it is so much work to click that like button. Ahem...
Love the posts on here by so many knowledgeable people who aren't just regurgitating things they read in a magazine or book. People who have "been there and done that". Coming from an old line of European craftsman (GGF was a master carpenter, used to hand plane bowling alleys, GF was a machinist in a boiler factory and Dad was a master car mechanic) I appreciate the knowledge and craftsmanship in some of your project guns that you share with us.
One question, you work enough hours to massively accrue comp time, you work on detailed, time consuming restorations for yourself and friends...... Do you ever sleep?

Don’t worry, I’m also guilty of not hitting that like button as much as I should.

I do work a lot. My regular work week is four 11.5 hour days and then another 8 on the fifth day. I do manage to get some sleep.
I haven’t taken much time off in the last six years and my sick, vacation and comp time have been building up.
I plan to retire January 2021. I’ll be able to sale back one year of vacation and sick time (1900 hrs) and all the comp time I have.
I’ve paid off all my bills and updating my house right now so that when I retire I’ll be able to do what ever I want with that big check. Hell, I might buy some nice guns.
Just think of all the projects I could get done with more time on my hands.

Curses! I am retired and have the rest of my life off, but pawn shops in Michigan can't sell guns! :) We only have one gun shop here and it has nothing in the Mauser arena.
Gunny how many pounds of long military rifles do you have??? :)
Yes they can. You must be in GR or some other city with stupid ordinances.

Not sure of the pounds, but it’s a lot.

you got a fair deal on them, Mosin looks real good. You have milsurp fever going on I see, not much of a cure for it except when you run broke lol

Oh, I’m way passed the point of having milsurp fever. But I still hunt for good deals.
Turkish rifles are my favorite, but I only have just over forty of them. :(

I love all types of guns except black powder but mil-surps do have a special thing to me. I went on a mil-surp buying craze from mid 90's to 2010 then the market started drying up and haven't got much since except recently a Mosin 91/30 1943 Izzy a couple months ago in really nice condition for $250.00 that was sitting at my local gun store. Every time I go on gunbroker though surfing I do gravitate toward looking at Swedish and contract mausers so eventually I'll probably get more I only have one Turk so far.
