Took possession of it Friday afternoon, and after I took care of some business later in the day I took her home and stripped her down and cleaned her with BreakFree CLP. The fit and finish on that gun is just amazing. I had no experience with Dan Wesson before, but I was VERY impressed. Not sure how it would compare with a Wilson, Baer or Nighthawk, but it's at least every bit the equal of the Kimbers, and it might even be better. However, I did have a slight problem putting it back together -- the plunger tube was as tight as I've ever seen one, at least since the first 1911 I got, the Springfield GI, back in early 2006. I had to get a little allen wrench and push it back in directly to get the slide stop in place. I figure it'll loosen up with time, though.
I also picked up 100 rounds of Remington UMC to run through her and replenish my supply of once-fired brass, and late yesterday morning it was off to the races! I don't know if it was the ammo or the gun, but the chronoed velocity of the UMCs was a little slower than advertised, about 1080-1100 fps. But the gun was very accurate and I had no feeding problems or anything like that, though I was shooting a little to the right at 7 yards. I am wrestling with the idea of getting some Hogue wraparounds for her; the coco bolos look great but they proved to be a tad abrasive. So far, though, I am very, very happy with my purchase. I might just have to get another when I pay off the credit card.

I was looking at those Dan Wessons myself for a good fairly inexpensive 1911. How much for yours?
Just shy of $900 after tax, and worth every penny. Still about $200 less than my Kimber Stainless Target II, though I did order two extra mags with the Kimber. Overall I'd say the DW may well turn out to be the better deal, but I do like my Kimber too.

That is an awsome pistol. Congrats.
Thanks. Like I said, I am very happy with it. :D And yes, it's a post-CZ gun. When I was in the market for my first 10mm 1911 a little over a year ago, the folks at the gun shop I was dealing with mentioned the DWs and had nothing but good things to say about them, even though they said they'd go for one of the Kimbers. (Incidentally, their marketing pitch for the Kimber wasn't really that hard.) I mentioned this to a friend after I picked up the Kimber and he said, "don't buy a (blasted) knockoff! Kimber's the best there is!" Something tells me he's gonna change his tune when he actually sees and handles this gun. I'm betting that more Dan Wessons will find their way into my safe.

You might mention to your friend that Kimber didn't invent the 1911... They're also a knockoff...

My CZ/DW Razorback is also an amazing pistol. The finest production 1911 10mm money can buy.

I've got an early production razorback. I don't shoot it a lot these days and every now and then I think I want to sell it. Then I take it out and put 100 rounds through it and I'm reminded why I don't.

glad to see another Dan Wesson owner - they have to be the best kept secrets in 1911s. I don't have a razorback, but I have a Pointman 7 in 10mm. it's a dream to shoot! I got mine from Buds for a couple bucks under $800. I believe they have razorbacks for about $50 bucks less. mine has been flawless so far for 500 rounds. if you reload or shoot full power 10mm, be sure to pick up a heavier recoil spring. I use a 24lb wolf spring in mine, and a recoil buffer just in case. enjoy your razorback!
