Got my eye on a chunky Israeli Gal

Yes that's right, I'm eyeballing an IWI Galil ACE. I was initially considering the 7.62x39 model but considering that these rifles are nearly 9 lbs naked and empty, I may aswell just go for the 7.62 NATO model.


I have been looking for a semi-auto 308 for a while but I'm not sold on the AR10 platform. In terms of price the AR10 is about the same but the Galil has a bit of cool factor and I dont own any AK variants.

Anybody own one? Yeah? Nah? Meh?

It looks like it solved some issues with both the AK and AR platform.

Things it does better than an AK: Straight drop/insert mags. Safety ergos.

Things it does better than an AR: Folding stock.

None of those are deal breakers, but it's nice to have for sure.

I can't fault you, the only downsides I could think of is its probably hard on brass (only matters if you reload). It probably isn't quite as gilt edge accurate as SOME AR's. Trigger might not be great, but should at least be as good as a decent AK. Which isn't awful.

I'd grab one before a CETME/PTR/FAL for sure. Should be a great rifle.

Chunky doesn’t bother me at all if they have a pretty face.

Be careful though, the more you're into her the heavier she'll get.
