WOOHOO Found an XD .45 ACP today by accident. I was about to go down to another shop and have a second look at an XD .40 (been bitten by the XD bug hard) that is a used one for a very nice price. A friend of mine was going to join me and give me his opinion of the condition it was in after he picked up a Beretta Storm from another little shop near where he lives. He calls me up after his purchase and says, your not going to believe this, they have the .45. Well, he tries to bs me all the time, so my first reaction is to say he is full of :cuss: . He tells me he wouldn't kid me on this. The craziest thing is that the shop that had it had the least variety and stock of any shop for at least a hundred miles and was the only one to get one in. So anyway, now I am the proud owner of a new XD .45 ACP, and I AM SO DANGED HAPPY WOOHOO :D .
Can't wait to take her out tomorrow for a day of putting holes in paper. :D

does the grip seem alot larger or anything than the other xd's? Seems like I saw someone else post that, but had been under the impression they were supposed to be similarly sized.

What did it cost?I am VERY interested in this..also do they make it in the smaller size yet(compact)?

Buy a couple of boxes of the WWB value pack, the XD45 ACP loves them!!! I went through 200+ rounds when I went to the range with mine last Thursday.

I got mine the week before Christmas 2005, and the Springer XD-45ACP
came with all the GEAR accessory's (holster, double mag pouch, and a
magazine loader) in a hard case with cable lock, allen wrench, and docs
including a first production run cover sheet from the sales manager at
Springfield Armory~! My price = $399 OTD~!:D

The grip is just slightly larger than the 9mm/.40 platform. Nothing like the G-21.

got mine last week, one of the first few in il i think. i shot it today. it loved my reloads qs well as range sold ammo. no i did not think the grip was bigger or to big as i read previously. i love it.

Functionality:

Well, here is my range report. It ran flawless on reloads that I taper crimped I had some cambering problems with some reloads that I was crimping and seating at the same time, but this is the same problem I had with my 1911. I need to add that I have also just recently acquired a Dillon 550b and was using a seating/crimping die and just got a separate seating die for it. So in 300 rounds I had 11 that would not camber fully. Those were all in the first 50 rounds and all all that were seated then crimped ran flawlessly. So as far as functionality, it runs great. The clips are very easy to load, even without the speed loader. The slide in almost on their own. The slide locked open after the last round every time. So other then my errors in reloading :banghead: I say A+ in functionality.

Accuracy:

It dead on out of the box POA sight picture ot of the box at 10 yards on a bench rest. I am by far from an expert shot and got a 2.5" 5 shot group at 10 yards with my reloads. My friend who is a much better shot then I got a 1.5" group at 10yds 5 shots. I was all over the place at 25yds but at that point was just having fun because it was getting late. So it isn't as accurate as my 1911, but that is keeping in mind I am have much more experience with my 1911. I still wouldn't hesitate to carry it for defensive purposes. No grade for accuracy from me, being that I am not an expert shot.

Other things to consider:

Compared to my 1911, and my Friends Sig 220 it dose have quite a bit more kick. This I am sure due to it being lighter and unported. Its grip size compared to a XD 40 is unnoticeable to me. I am 6'7" and can almost touch the tips of my fingers to my palm on around both grips. I think I will be getting a Hogue grip sleeve for it though. After about 200 rounds the hard plastic was getting to be a bit uncomfortable and the kick added to that, again a big difference from my 1911 that has rubber grips. It is lighter and slightly smaller then a Sig 220, and a fair amount smaller and lighter than my 1911. The belt holster that came with it is nice but I don't care for how it slightly flops on my belt. I will most likely be getting a paddle holster for it and I think it is by no means to large for concealed carry unless maybe you are of small stature.

Over all I really like it, I don't regret the purchase at all. For pure range shooting not the best choice. If your adverse to kick and want to get accurate double taps I am betting this has to much kick for that. For self defense I think it will be great. Who needs a double tap in self defense with a .45 anyway :D

Oh and I paid $546 otd for the package. May have spent to much but I wanted it BAAAAAD. :D Feel free to ask any other questions, and I will give another update on any problems with reloads on my next range trip.

At this point I have not found anything saying they will be making a compact.
However I don't see why they couldn't and make it a 9+1 or so but then again I am no engineer.

Thanks! I looked at my local dealer today but no joy. Had to walk out of there with a Redhawk Alaskan instead. :)

Have a good one,
Dave

Not knocking anyone's gun, but the reason the XDs flip so much is the high bore axis. Think of the lever principle. Same thing applies to HKs and Sigs. One reason Glocks are so flat shooting is the low bore axis and grip angle.

I want it in the 5" tactical model. Will hlep cut down muzzle flip and that extra inch really helps my old eyeballs aligh the sight. Very happy with my XD9 tactical.
