going to ream out a Handi-rifle barrel to the Maximum caliber, but load data for this bullet is scarce....

185 grain CAST bullet using W296

I could use some data on cast bullets in that range, and for W296 powder.

could use any data for that type of bullet actually so can build a data bank for it.

thanks !

right and not one of those if for the bullets. I have on hand, cast 185,wish they did though. Sorry to be so particular but in my small town i shoot what I can get my hands on.

There is some load data on my reloading app on my phone. It's called reloading assistant. Very worthwhile download

I use the same app. It is basically a collection of many various published data sources. Has worked well to confirm other sources, as well.

The .357 Maximum isn't that old. Developed in 1983 as another answer to an unasked question.
Hodgdon lists it as the .357 Remington Maximum. Probably why you missed it. No cast data anyway. Pressures given only for a 180 FMJ using 296. Max load runs 46,900 CUP out of a 10" barrel. Same bullet weight and powder runs 39,100 CUP in .357 Mag. Dunno if a Handi-Rifle will handle that. May want to look into that first.
There is some on Handloads.com. One cast 210 grain and 1 cast 215 load using 296.
No cast data on Reloader's Nest.
Bunch of data and info here. http://www.bellmtcs.com/store/index.php?cid=605

Goodness. At the time, metallic silhouette was a popular sport, and the .357 Max was intended to "answer" the question of how to get a very flat-shooting cartridge capable of knocking over steel targets at 200 yards without a crippling amount of recoil. It was not without problems, but the problems were never that "nobody asked for it."

Here's a short article for anyone interested: https://www.shootingillustrated.com/articles/2010/10/28/ruger-357-maximum/

I've got data for you, Throckmorton. I've printed it out and I'll have it for you the next time I see you.

Hope this helps.

Fred

I have load manual for the tc contender and in vol. 2 it shows rcbs lead data for a 180 gr. silhouette bullet. It shows loads of 296 from 20.8 - 22.8 grains . ( 1800-1960 fps)

All other data I have for heavy bullets are either for jacketed bullets or different powders.

I'm not home right now but I will check tonight when I get home. I might have an old Winchester manual and some others.
I can't find anything in my manuals and papers and I have a lot. I'm guessing it's because it was developed in the early 80s so there is no old cast bullet data to find like with older cartridges, sorry...
