Is anyone running a red dot on their GP-100? If so, what mount and red dot did you go with? How has the mount and red dot held up to .357 mag loads?

Also, what holsters accommodate GP-100s with red dots? I just picked up a blued 6” GP-100 today and I’m debating outfitting it with a red dot.

I’m pretty stoked because I got it brand new on sale for $672 out the door!

Try Allchin.com for your mount. Vortex Venoms are very popular these days and hold up very well. There are a lot of Kydex holsters that will work. SpeedBeez.com comes to mind.

I once had a 6" GP100. Tried a red dot on it with a Raptor mount, buy ended up not liking a red dot on it. The mount was fine. The red dot was fine. I just didn't like that setup.

However, I did slightly modify a Simply Rugged Cattleman holster to accept the gun with mount and RD attached. It worked nicely. Simply Rugged might even make you a holster that works with the mount, if you ask.

I don't own a gp-100 but have had scope & reddots on a bunch of s&w revolvers over the decades and use a bushnell rxs-100 on a 686 to this day.

Something to keep in mind is the height of the reddot compared to the bore. Canting the revolver doesn't have a huge affect at close range or on larger target. How your eye perceives the same sight picture/position of the viewing window of the reddot plays a huge role in how accurate you are with that reddot. My 686 has a built in scope mount on the bbl shroud that keep the reddot low to the bore. This takes a lot of the operator error out of play.

Try to get a reddot that has a lot of brightness setting, they really do make a difference. I put a burris fastfire III on a 10" contender bbl chambered in 44mag. Was dialing it in to bang on steel @ 100yds. This target is a mess but I was using it to sight the reddot in. Not test loads, they are 50yd smallbore rifle targets setup @ 100yds. Was moving the dot around on the top 3 targets and when I felt I was close I moved to the bottom 2 targets.

I shot the bottom left target and turned the brightness down 1 setting and then I shot the right target. The top and bottom left target were shot with a bright dot that was a little fuzzy looking on the edges. Turned it down 1 setting and that made it a lot easier to distinguish the dot being in the center of the black of the target (round clean edged dot). Same ammo, firearm, rest, shooter, etc. The difference in a clear outline of the dot vs fuzzy edges ='s 3 1/2" group on the bottom left target compared to a 1 5/8" group on the right target

Reddots hold up extremely well on revolvers. They don't have the repeated pounding/slamming of the slides to deal with. I'm using a cheap bushnell rxs-100 on that 686 and have shot 1000's of 357/1200fps 160gr bullet loads with that setup and no issues. My 1911's get burris fastfire III's. The 22lr's and firearms that have mounts that are stationary use an array of different reddots.

Good luck on whatever you come up with. Dots are the cat's meow on revolvers

Weigand mounts and ultradots, have them on all my revolvers from the s&w 460 to the ruger gp100, they work great. I usually use a uncle mikes holster and modify it for the red dot, cheap and easy.
