GP100 Outdoorsman, 357 Magnum, 6" barrel, would you like to see it manufactured?

One gun shop wallah said that it was probably because you got More Metal! for the same price. Your reference to the python cosmetic craze probably explains it better.
There is no question IMO that Colt Python is for many, me included, the most beautiful revolver ever made. And when I was younger, such heavy barrel was fine on the range. Well, not any more, when I carry revolver around, while hunting wild boars (as a backup). In that respect, instead of taking 686 or Python in 357 Magnum, I would rather take 4.625" or 5.5" SBH in 44 Magnum. Way more punch for basically the same weight.

See thread Lipsey & Ruger…ask for a GP100 in 41 Magnum!!! https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/lipsey-ruger…ask-for-a-gp100-in-41-magnum.898006/ . Pay attention to this post:

This is significant! If S&W makes N-frame with .670" thread, and chambering it in 41 Magnum, 44 Magnum and even 45 Colt, 11/16" thread in 10 mm GP100 clearly indicates that Ruger already made design changes that will allow GP100 chambered not just in 41 Magnum, but also in 44 Magnum and 45 Colt. Sort of DA Flattop. Of course, GP100 cannot compare in strength with Redhawk and Super Redhawk, but I would say it is close, if not at least equal, to S&W N-frame.

Also GP100, something old, something new and what we could expect? https://www.rugerforum.com/threads/...and-what-we-could-expect.298775/#post-2976470

Amazing. I started that post in 2021 about bringing out the GP 100 in 41 Magnum and it’s still going today. That has to be some kind of record with a thread 85 pages long. Just as in the 60s when they bought the 41 Magnum out the nay sayers jumped right on it and the same fallacy that doomed the 41 then is still going strong today…” It’s not as good as the 44 Magnum…” I think the world has missed the point entirely. In so many words, Elmer Keith said it the best. Forget my comments…Elmer Keith! Now he knew a thing or two about handguns. The 41 Magnum was NEVER intended to match the 44 Magnum. NEVER!!! The 41 Magnum was intended to be a better 357 Magnum, and at that task, it excels. My original post is 85 pages long and still going strong…must have struck a nerve! Who knew?

I'm a fan of Ruger's GP100 and have them in the inventory and routinely sing their praises for what they are to anyone who will listen. However, if forced to pick I'd rather see this being brought back into production. Gimme 3-4 minutes and I'll have the 6-inch barrel mounted, a better trigger, dead sexy looks with exceptional accuracy to boot.

A bit more info. S&W made a 686 Mtn. Gun that had a catalog weight of 35.5 oz. It did have a 7 shot cylinder, though. A GP100 2.5" 7 shot supposedly has a cat. weight of 36 oz. So, perhaps taking Craig's 6" half lug at 43 oz and fitting a 7 shot cylinder, a lighter top strap on the gun and thinner barrel profile it could be reduced to around 39-40 oz.

Fun exercise. Unfortunately 44mag in a GP100 is a non-starter without a redesign of the frame. Making a Super Redhawk. (As discussed in this sub-forum.) There's a reason the undercut has gone away for the full lug, it's what buyers want.

Ruger can't deliver their existing revolver catalog, I can't imagine a solid business reason to make a niche revolver in today's market with the available employee pool.
