Hi Guys,

Wanted to drop this article right here. Beyond selling a rifle scope, it really shows in the first image how the direct to consumer business model really helps us save some money on optics.

Ive been in the industry a while now, and selling optics for about 12 years, and Ive seen prices climb to give everyone better margin. this is a great opportunity to get that high quality glass and construction for a better deal. You don't need to spend as much on the optic if you can get the same if not better quality for 40%-50% less.

Unless I'm mistaken, the 'article' was written by one of the guys who started the company, so it's just a page of advertising.

Blatant? I'd call it just fine, his user name is "Tract Optics," it isn't like he is trying to hide something. I don't mind hearing about a new product.

Yep, its an article written by one of the founders of Tract. Just a good little bit of information on Tract. Also, wanted to show again the business model of direct to consumer and though a simple illustration, an easy way to see where that saved margin lands.

Interesting - always like to see a new company putting out (hopefully) high quality optics.

Since you're having these built for you in Japan by some un-named company, are they doing the basic optical and mechanical design for you as well, or do you have "in house" engineers running something like ZEMAX or CODE-V to do the optical design, and some CAD package for the mechanical design and specification?

Hi Hank,

I'm pretty open about the factories. I always liked to know where my stuff was coming from. We use Light Optical for the Toric, Tekoa, and Turion scopes, and Kamakura for the Bino's. Clearly you know your way around the optical world, so I'm sure you know who else makes theirs there.

One of our founders does much of the design and mechanics and then we have some engineers as well. He came from about 20 years in optics development at another company and like most, was restricted to make products to fit the price niche that 'the company' deemed a priority. It just gets tiring wanted to make something better and being held back.

Thanks for the response.

How did you settle on a name like TORIC for some of your binoculars and riflescopes? Toric lenses are asymmetric, and imply there's astigmatism present . . . that seems like a strange name choice for sport optics . . . sort of like naming a personal computer "Lemon" instead of "Apple."

ow did you settle on a name like TORIC for some of your binoculars and riflescopes?

Not too sure on that one. Was named before I came on. I'll have to inquire as to the criteria for the names.

Thanks!

Looked around your website from an earlier post. Like what I see, but I'm full up on hunting glass at this point. My sons have pushed me into the AR world, there is a lot of spendy glass in the 1-6 x range with "tacticool" features (fingertip adjustment is nice, green reticles not so much). I have some examples already and will be buying more. I hope to see some offerings from your company in the $400-600 range. The whole "$1K glass on a 556 carbine" doesn't set well with me.

We certainly have some in the works. I'm in the same boat with outfitting new rifles. There's been a big markup on Glass for a long time now and with our model, we can bring those price tags down by quite a bit.
