I ordered Pachmayr grips for my N-frame square bottom wheelgun. These grips are clamshell grips that open on one side. There’s a single center screw that’s too long. When I had tightened the screw enough to close the clamshell, the screw was protruding out the other side by 1/4”. These are going back!

Now I need another set of grips. Hogue grips are always good. Other suggestions?

If I liked the grips I'd shorten the screw. If you're open to wood you might try Herrett's like I've got on my Model 28-2 in my avatar. The Pachmayr presentation grips work well for me on the Model 28 also.

Did you call Pachmayr first and see if they could send you a shorter screw?

I just got some K frame grips from Altamont and the grips came with three different length screws to try. Odd that Pachmayr doesn't do the same.

Hogues or Altamonts.

I like 'em both.

Very common on the newer pachys. Cut down the screw.

Hogues are always good.

My S&W 25-15 .45 Colt is a square butt. I bought it ‘21. It came with Altamont grip panels. They’re patterned after the Altamont Roper grip. I confirmed with S&W and Altamont that the grips on mine were made for S&W under contract by Altamont. I like the grip on my 25-15 very much. I have Altamont Ropers on 2 of my K frames.

If you’re more interested in a rubber grip my GP100 came with the Hogue Monogrip. When I bought the gun the first thing I was going to do was dump the Monogrip. Turns out I really like it and the finger grooves actually fit my hands.

Alright dude, you broke me. I ordered this

Altamont pair of grips!

I think those grips are gorgeous. I hope yours look like that or better. Let us see them when you get them and also what you think of them after shooting them.

I have been tempted to order the round butt version of those grip panels for my 327 Night Guard but I am afraid the finger grooves won’t line up with my fingers.

Bummer.

I bought two older Pachmayr 'N' Presentations for my Brazilian M1917s off of eBay -- they were both the two-piece style rather than the clamshell, with the internal escutcheon.

The Presentation grip on my 32-20 Hand Ejector is a two-piece with an external escutcheon.

The only clamshell Presentation I have at the moment is on my K-22, and I did have to shorten the grip screw a little to prevent bulging on the opposite side.

I guess this grip style was produced in more than one generation.

I have 2 629's that came with target grips (both revolvers purchased new in '90)

Definitely had that classic S&W look but we're pretty brutal with magnum loads.

Since the revolvers were purchased for hunting anyway, both were fitted with Pachmyer rubber grips.

I did not like them; much too thin in cross-section to be comfortable to my hand but left them on for a few years because I didn't want to beat up my nice wood.

After a few years I picked up some S&W finger grooved 'Combat' grip and found them to be comfortable in my hand but, obviously did nothing for recoil reduction.

I recently bought a S&W 610 and found the OEM round butt to square butt conversation rubber grips (that completely enclose the backstrap) to be an absolutely amazing fit for my hands.

I'd like to get a couple sets for my 629's but, since they're square butt and the 610 is round but they won't work.

The rubber Hogue grips for square butt S&W's look similar but have an exposed backstrap and that's a no-go for me.

I put wooden grips on my Model 57 no dash when I first got it home. They fit my hands pretty well and looked great!

The next day I packed up my stuff and took it out to the range.

I ordered Hogue synthetic grips for it right after I got home from that trip.

I really do dislike the look of blah, rubbery grips, but the .41 Mag is much more pleasant to shoot now. 😞

Hope you have better luck!

Stay safe.

Cut the excess part of the screw. Better they send one that's too long than one that is too short.

I have a set of those on my M57

Not a fan of rubber grips. They do nothing for me. Starting with a Model 29-2, I started trying the various grips and stocks available. Finger grooves did not fit my hand nor style of shooting. Targets were big where my hand is small and small where my hand is big (although they are great to whittle away the excess to fit your hand!). I finally figured it out that Sevice stocks or Magna stocks with a grip adapter was the correct fit for me.

Curly maple Magna stocks with a Tyler T Grip.

Magnas stocks on the left, Service stocks on the right. The grip adapters are, top to bottom, Pachmyar, Mershon, S&W, Tyler, and Tyler.

I have a similar set up on all of my N frames. This combination is what works for me.

Be a big spender and get the right size screw at the hardware store if you don’t want to cut it down.

Be a lot less than return postage.

....but then we wouldn't have all of these nice grips to look at. My Altamont's on my S & W K22.
Those are darned pretty grips on your k22, Frog...I love them too, but....only for target level center fire loads as my middle finger knuckle gets rapped pretty hard with anything stronger.

Hey, Straw, get me written into the will if you croak...I want those stags>>>> Rod Here's a pair of Ropers by Altamont...on my 629...gorgeous but I keep the muzzle velocity down in .44 Special country.
