Growing number of police chiefs, sheriffs join call to arms

This is a good article on the growing number of police chiefs, sheriffs all telling citizens to start arming themselves. It contains quotes from chief law enforcement officials. Some of them are newer quotes I think that haven't been published before.

Permits are up 4.6 million in 2007 to 12.8 million in 2015 and so is the public acceptance of feeling safer with a gun in the house. 63% now up from 35% in 2000.

“If you are foolish enough to break into someone’s home, you can expect to be shot in Polk County,” Judd said in a statement after a homeowner shot a would-be home invader earlier this month. “It’s more important to have a gun in your hand than a cop on the phone."

Also this

"One California police chief is backing teachers in his district packing heat. Detroit Police Chief James Craig has been a leader in urging his community to arm itself. A Maryland sheriff is working with the state’s general assembly to try to make it easier for citizens to obtain handgun permits."
.

"It's more important to have a gun in your hand than a cop on the phone".

That's signature material right there. :D Analogous to "when seconds count, the police are only minutes away."

St. Petersburg and Pinellas county are having the opposite happen.
Last year a couple of female realtors were attacked and had their property stolen, cars, phones, purses and such the new St. Petersburg police chief cautioned realtors to NOT arm themselves citing the tired old nonsense that the gun you carry will be used against you. Pepper spray is the only viable means for personal protection for civilians.
Pinellas county's Sheriff has been a staunch opponent of open carry saying the same silly stuff about getting shot first. Gualteiri has taken a similar stance to civilians carrying gun as his predecessor Coats. You can look at his youtube clip during the state legislature's hearings here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqrLRePn8Js
Yeah he understands people's rights.

If they're an elected position, by definition they're politicians. Appointed chiefs serve at the of pleasure of politicians.

Although there are exceptions, it shouldn't come as a surprise that most at the top follow the party line.
