I am thinking about a semi auto 22 for the range. I think I would prefer a buckmark, but I handled the gsg and wondered about it, especially for the price. Anyone have experience with these?

The one I had was very accurate, no hiccups, shot everything I fed it. The only problem I had was the finish wasn't durable. But, I stripped it down to bare metal, and, being an alloy, it wouldn't corrode, so I just oiled it and shot it.

I have 2 of them. One is pretty close to stock and the other has been modified a bit. Both of them were pretty good right out of the box. Decent triggers, fairly accurate and very reliable with decent ammo. With the stock slide it will run most 22lr ammo. Very fun to shoot. If you like the 1911 format I'd highly recommend them.

The GSG 22 is an okay pistol for the money, but unless you upgrade it with aftermarket accurizing parts it will not even come close to the accuracy most other 22's. Sights are plastic, and it comes with three front sights, however most will shoot high even with the tallest one, so sights are another added cost. Next is the ambi safety which is guaranteed to become loose/worn where they join in the center, another added cost. By the time you upgrade the GSG to be a great shooter you'd be at the cost of a nice Buck Mark which is already great shooter out of the box.

Or a Ruger Mark 2/3/4.
I have seen pinned slides right out the box.
Look they have very soft alloy slides, just google around there are plenty of pics, if you are set on 1911 get and better adapter with a std 1911 mil. spec..

The local range and shop had a buckmark black label that they apparently could not sell going for 356. Couldn't resist and got to shoot it same day. Sweet trigger and feels great in my hand. I think I need to pick up another case or two of 22.

Now I have to find the time to make a leather holster for it.

I have one that I bought a few years ago. So far, after 500 rounds or so, it has been decently accurate and reliable. I am happy with it.
